Trainer: David DeVore and team – Dave comes to us with decades of service in law enforcement which has ranged across all aspects of keeping our communities safe. He’s a long-time citizen of Issaquah with his family on Squak Mountain. He’s also a black belt in Filipino Martial Arts along with his son Chase (who will be joining him). He’s held numerous self-defense classes across the region and is excited to bring his knowledge to our community.
About the session: Though Dave will work through many means of self-defense during this session, his stated goal is to ensure every participant walks away with at least “One Tactic” that will elevate their confidence and safety around the community. The two hour session will be a basics course but you’ll leave with some tangible skills. Wear some comfortable clothes and shoes for the session and come ready to have some fun while learning valuable life skills.
Additional info: We see this as an initial step towards a larger movement within our city (and beyond) whereby we make a very loud statement that "abuse against women has NO place here or anywhere”. We’re already in discussions on how to offer classes for Men as we believe this is the real problem to tackle. We are also eager to see how this class goes and let the community help define the need for future classes and any other means to help move this broader mission ahead.
