Nonfiction Picture Book Biographies

A Park University and The Little Fig Collaboration

The purpose of the NWI partnership is to encourage authors to tell stories that have been overlooked and need to be told. Our goal is to promote and support the writing of nonfiction picture book biographies that showcase subjects of cultural, linguistic, ethnic, or gender diversity. The focus of January 2019’s intensive is on the creation of inspirational picture book biographies that tell untold and diverse stories.

 

Tell us about you

Please tell us a little about yourself, why this program interests you, and what you hope to get out of it.

List 1-3 possible subjects for your manuscript and briefly address the following for each:

• Why have you chosen this person?
• What about your subject's story is inspirational and represent cultural, linguistic, ethnic, and/or gender diversity? 
• Why do you believe this story needs to be told?
• What resources will you be using to obtain factual content for the manuscript? (Note the project will require a written bibliography and appropriate citing of sources.)

Writing Sample

Please submit a completed picture book manuscript (no more than 1,500 words) or a 5-page sample of your writing (i.e., fiction or nonfiction manuscript, short story, or essay. No poetry please).

Application fee is $32.  (Non-refundable)

Applications accepted from August 15, 2018 until 11:59 p.m. CST on November 15, 2018.  Applications and supporting documents must be in English.

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age to enter.
