District 8 City-Parish Councilwoman Liz Webb Hebert established the Adopt A Bus Stop Fund, a designated fund of Community Foundation of Acadiana (CFA), to secure funding to build more than 600 shelters at Lafayette
Transit System bus stops across the City of Lafayette. Through this private/public partnership, Hebert is securing donations from businesses and community leaders to cover the cost of the construction for the shelters.
Hebert said only ten percent of local bus stops offer covered shelters, and the LCG budgets to cover 11 stops, annually.
The average cost of a three-sided bus shelter with a roof and concrete pad is $10,000.
Contributions to the Adopt A Stop Fund through CFA are tax deductible.
Checks can be mailed to Community Foundation of Acadiana, 1035 Camellia Blvd., Ste. 100, Lafayette, LA 70508. Make checks payable to Community Foundation of Acadiana; memo: Adopt A Bus Stop.
