NYC SALT has partnered with NYC PARKS Centers across the city to provide free photo workshops to NYC High School Students.
In this program, you will learn how to use a camera, how to use light, how to find your vision, how to use your voice to tell a story and more. You will get to go on field trips to meet some of the leaders working in the visual industry and gain a better understanding of career paths in photography and visual communication.
You will develop a professional portfolio that you can use for college admissions and professional opportunities. Your work will be displayed at the end of the year in our Annual Photography Exhibition at a public venue attended by leading industry professionals and your family.

This is a free program. We fundraise to provide each student with free tuition. This program costs us $2000 per student. We take attendance and participation very seriously. If a student misses more than three classes for any reason, they will lose their spot and it will be given to a student on our waiting list.
There is a $50 fee to secure your space in the program if your application is selected. The fee will go towards your program supplies.
Our program runs throughout the school year (September to June) following the public school calendar. Classes are two hours a week and students are expected to work on their class assignments and shoot during the week.
An attendance policy is strictly enforced. No more than three absences are permitted for any reason or your spot will be given to another student on our waiting list.
The Workshop Program is a stepping stone towards our advanced residency program if you decide you would like to take your photography to the next level. To be eligible for the workshop program, you must meet the following criteria:
you must be in high school
you must have a minimum GPA of 70
you must not have any scheduling conflicts with the above-mentioned dates due to prior commitments to school clubs or other programs
you must commit to make this program your first priority on the days we meet and not commit to other activities later in the year (sports) that will interfere with your attendance in Salt
Please fill out the entire application form and submit the following documents:
Parent/guardian statement of commitment
(This should be a paragraph written and signed by a parent or guardian stating that they are committed to helping you maintain perfect participation and attendance in the program, and will not plan appointments, trips, or other events that will conflict with your class participation)
Only complete applications will be considered.
If your application is selected to move on to the interview stage, you will be contacted to set up a 30-minute interview with a parent/guardian. Your parent or guardian must come to this interview in order for you to be eligible for the program. The interview is for us to get to know you a bit better and to also explain the program to your parent or guardian to make sure they understand the commitment required. Application and interview do not guarantee admission into the program.
Application deadline: September 27, 2018
