• Undergraduate Visiting and Non-Degree Application

  • Students who wish to study at The New School for a semester as a visiting or non-degree student must use this application for admission consideration. Visiting  and Non-degree students are not eligible for financial aid from The New School and on campus housing is not guaranteed.

    • Visiting students are those who attend another college or university and plan on returning to their home institution after studying  at The New School. In order to be eligible for visiting student status, the applicant must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA and be in good standing at their current institution.
    • Non-Degree students are not currently  enrolled in another college or university and wish to study for a semester at The New School.

    Application deadlines

    • Fall term (August-December) is May 15
    • Spring term (January-May) is October 15

    TOEFL, IELTS, OR PTE

    A TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE score is required for students whose native language is not English. The New School does not require TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE scores for applicants:

    1. Who have attended a secondary school for a minimum of three years, at the time of application, where English is the primary language of instruction. Students who have taken any ESL (English as Second Language) courses while in high school, regardless of how long they have been at their high school, must submit results of either the TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE.
    2. Who have successfully completed two full semesters of non-ESL college-level expository writing. 
    3. Who have earned a 4 year degree from a U.S. College/University or from a University where English is the primary language of instruction. (Minimum of three years attendance).

    **Note, upon review of your application the Office of Admission may require you to submit an English Language Proficiency test score to further evaluate your candidacy.

    Parsons BFA applicants are required to submit a Portfolio. Portfolio should consist of 8 to 12 pieces of work, which may include but are not limited to drawings, paintings, photographs, digital media or design. 

  • Additional requirements for School of Drama

    School of Drama applicants have to complete an Artistic Portfolio submission. You can choose to submit an online audition as an acting portfolio, writing samples as a playwriting portfolio, works related to directing/stage management as a directing portfolio, a creative technology/design portfolio, two academic papers as a dramaturgy portfolio, or any combination of acting, directing, playwriting, dramaturgy, or creative technology work. This allows you to show us all of your strengths.
