This contract is between
Hereafter referred to as "Caregiver''
And Calgary Animal Rescue Society,
Hereafter referred to as "CARS."
1.The role of a foster home is to temporarily house and care for animals belonging to CARS, until such time that the foster animal is adopted. Caregiver understands that CARS is the sole and rightful owner of foster animal and the animal must be returned immediately upon request. Caregiver shall NOT give or otherwise transfer custody of foster animal to any other person or organization for any period of time, unless approved by CARS in advance. If, for any reason, caregiver is unable to house and care for foster animal, he/she will immediately notify CARS and will return said foster animal to CARS. A minimum of 48 hours' notice is requested to allow CARS to make arrangements for an alternate foster home but CARS will try thier best in emergencies to make arrangements on short notice.
2.All decisions including but not limited to health care decisions, transport decisions and placement decisions regarding foster animal shall be made by CARS. CARS will make every effort to consult with Caregiver.
3.Any items provided to Caregiver by CARS, such as crates, litter boxes, leashes, etc., are considered on loan and remain CARS property. All CARS property must be returned immediately when Caregiver ceases fostering for CARS.
Animal Care
4.Caregiver represents that he/she has reasonable knowledge regarding the proper care and handling of their chosen foster animal. If not, they will immediately educate themselves and seek assistance and guidance from CARS.
5.All animals personally belonging to Caregiver MUST be spayed or neutered and provided with all necessary medical care including vaccinations and parasite preventative. Proof of such IS REQUIRED UPON REQUEST. Any exceptions must be made in writing by a CARS Director. Cars strongly recommends discussing potential risks to personal pets with your veterinarian prior to fostering.
6.Caregiver will make the foster animal available for all necessary medical care including all required vaccinations, parasite preventative, or any other medical care deemed appropriate by CARS. If foster animal is NOT spayed or
neutered when caregiver takes possession of said foster animal, he/she will make the necessary arrangements as soon as possible for the procedure at a CARS approved veterinary clinic. CARS MUST be notified of any veterinary appointments immediately to approve fees for the procedure and arrange transport, if requireds all responsibility and/or liability for payment of fees or fines of any kind associated with Bylaw infractions solely to the Caregiver.
7.Caregiver may foster littermates, but under no circumstances will littermates be adopted out together.
8.Foster animals MUST be supervised at all times when children and other animals are present, especially during the first two weeks when the animal is settling in. Proper separation while away from home includes keeping each animal in its own crate and/or secluded in a secured area in Caregiver's home. If Caregiver chooses NOT to separate all animals, he orshe takes responsibility for anyand all damages to person, property, or animal. Foster dogs are NEVER to be left outdoors while caregiver is away from home unless approved by CARS.
9.New foster dogs are NEVER to be allowed outside of the home without a leash, until the dog is settled in. No foster dogs will be allowed to roam at will or be off‐leash at any time while outside of the home except in designated off-leash areas, and only then when the Caregiver has full confidence in the animal's recall training (for more information regarding recall training please speak with an CARS trainer). All leash laws must be obeyed. The Caregiver assumes all liability for accidents, illness, loss or theft of animal, and behaviours of the animal while off‐leash.
10.All foster cats MUST be kept indoors at all times. CARS requires feline foste homes to provide an area for foster cats to be quarantined, separate from family cats, for a minimum of two weeks or until the cat is deemed to be free from upper respiratory infections. The area must allow for freedom of movement, but be enclosed to limit air circulation (such as a room with a door, not a kennel). Caregivers should take care to wash their hands before and after handling animals.
11.CARS reserves the right to inspect Caregiver's home at any time. Caregiver agrees to provide safe and sanitary conditions for housing the foster animal. Furthermore, Caregiver will provide a nurturing, loving environment free from verbal and physical abuse. For safety reasons, Caregiver will remove any pig's ears or rawhide from their residence while fostering a CARS dog and take all reasonable measures to reduce household safety hazards. CARS has the right to revoke foster privileges based on the home inspection if conditions are found unsuitable to maintain excellent physical or emotional health of the foster animal.
12.In the event a foster animal is lost, stolen, or killed, Caregiver MUST immediately notify CARS by PHONE, and also provide a detailed written incident report within 24 hours of the incident. Caregiver may be liable for any expenses
associated with said foster animal should they be found negligent or irresponsible in their care or handling of said foster animal.
Adoptions
13.Caregiver commits to providing CARS with monthly status updates (including photos) for the website and other promotions. By providing a photo or text, Caregiver gives CARS a royalty‐free, non‐expiring license to use the photo or
text for promotional or other purposes. CARS reserves the right to edit, crop, orotherwise alter images or text. It is the Caregiver's responsibility to obtain consent to these terms from the photographer and any person whose image is
contained in a photo.
14.Caregiver commits to attending weekend adoption showings, events, and CARS adopt-a-thons with the foster animal when able. Caregiver will notify CARS immediately if unable to attend. Adoption events are crucial and every effort including volunteer pick up and drop off of foster animal may be explored if Caregiver unable to attend.
15.Caregiver shall make foster animal available to any prospective adopter at amutually convenient time and location. Caregiver agrees to return any calls or emails to prospective adopters or CARS volunteers within a 24 hour time period.
16.CARS recognizes the right of Caregiver, if so desired, to be included in the adoption process. Caregiver may permanently adopt said foster animal if such placement is approved by CARS. Caregiver has right of first refusal for adoption of said foster animal. CARS welcomes the input of Caregiver during potential adopter screening. If Caregiver executes the adoption of said foster animal, Caregiver will notify CARS immediately and will submit all completed adoption contract, forms, and fees to CARS within one week.
Indemnities and Amendments
17.CARS is NOT responsible for any damage caused by foster animal to property, possessions, or persons while in Caregiver's care. Caregiver understands and accepts the risks involved in fostering an animal which include, but arenot limited to, bites, scratches, damaged property.
18.CARS does NOT warranty the temperament or behaviour of said foster animal. CARS is NOT liable for any acts of said foster animal while in custody of Caregiver. CARS will provide training consultation or resources for problematic
behaviours if notified of said behaviours by Caregiver.
19.CARS will pay expenses or reimburse Caregivers ONLY if said expenses have∙ been previously approved by CARS. Receipts are required. CARS will NOT be financially responsible if Caregiver chooses to visit an unauthorized veterinary
clinic or purchase unauthorized supplies.
20.Caregiver acknowledges that his/her residence, if rented, permits pets and may be asked to produce proof of landlord consent.
21.Caregiver shall provide CARS with 2 weeks' notice of any change in address.Caregiver shall inform CARS of any change to phone number or e-mail address within a 24 hour time period of the change. Should CARS be unable to contact caregiver for a period exceeding 2 weeks (14 days), Caregiver may be charged for the theft of said foster animal.
22.This Agreement shall be effective from the date of execution until such time that Caregiver is no longer providing a foster home for CARS. It may be amended by mutual written consent of the Parties.
I have read and will follow the above contract.
If I have questions/concerns I will speak to a CARS Representative to get clarification prior to signing this contract.
