The code of conduct is for all members, parents / guardians, coaches, volunteers and administrators It is based on RESPECT. Respect for club rules, people and property.
Kayaking is an adventure sport and members must be aware of safety rules, the importance of personal safety and safety for others. It is required that all members are to show the following principles at all times
1. Respect
2. Freedom from bullying. Verbal and physical
3. To be safe
4. To be treated with equality
5. To confidentiality
6. To have fun
Members in turn are asked to:
1. Abide by the rules of BKC.
2. Respect all club members and officials.
3. Take care of all property belonging to the club or any club members.
4. Look after their own equipment and clothing.
5. Avoid behaviour which may inconvenience or upset others.
6. Never become involved in any form of bullying behaviour towards another person or persons. This includes negative, derogative discussions / rumours or anything that could impact the mental wellbeing of others.
7. Be considerate and respectful to other paddlers and water users.
8. Abide by the rules set down by BKC when travelling to away events.
9. Represent the club with dignity. Your actions and behaviour represent our club
10. Respect instructions from instructors or assistants while on the river. Your safety and that of others may depend on them.
11. All medical conditions must be disclosed. It's not just your life but those of others on the river you may be putting at risk.
Code of Conduct for Parents, Guardians, Family members and Friends of Club members
Baltinglass kayak Club is made up of members who voluntarily take up
positions of responsibility to run the club.
Parents/guardians have the primary responsibility for the care and welfare of
their children. As such there are a number of steps you can take to ensure a
fun and safe sporting environment for them.
It is expected that:
1. Parents/guardians of junior members take responsibility and are aware of
what their children are engaging in while on training sessions and trips
2. Parents/guardians familiarise themselves with the sport of kayaking.
3. Parents/guardians inform BKC of any medical conditions or special
needs, existing or arising in their child that may affect that child's
participation in canoeing.
4. Parents/guardians should make themselves aware of and support the rules
and disciplinary procedures of the club.
5. Parents/guardians take responsibility for ensuring that their children are
collected from BKC or a club related event at an agreed time so that the
child is not left waiting on their own.
Parents / Guardians / Family members / Friends of club members
1. Teach your child / family member / friend to respect and treat everyone equally regardless of gender, ethnic origin or cultural background.
2. Do not force an unwilling child to participate in canoeing activities or
competition.
3. Encourage your child to play by the rules and respect competition officials.
4. Young people are involved in sport for their enjoyment.
5. Never ridicule or shout at your child for making a mistake, losing or not completing a task.
6. Teach your child that effort and teamwork are as important as victory, so that
the result of each session/event is accepted without undue disappointment.
7. Support all efforts to ensure that verbal, physical and racist abuse does
not exist within kayaking.
8. Remember that young people learn best by example and you must hold a high level of appropriate personal behaviour when involved in any aspect of the club from training through to social situations
9. Do not question publicly the judgement of coaches / volunteers or administrators and never show negative / aggressive body language or argue, shout or use profanities at any club organised event / training / social scenario.
10. Never become involved in any form of bullying behaviour towards another person or persons. This includes negative, derogative discussions / rumours or anything that could impact the mental wellbeing of others.
11. Do not take the attention of coaches whilst sessions are being set up, during the session or whilst packing away after the session. All discussions not relevant to the current session and not of an urgent nature must be taken outside of these times.
12. Recognise the value and importance of volunteer coaches and administrators.

We are committed too and hold a high value to the safety and wellbeing of all of our members, we have policies and procedures in place to clearly outline the expectations for respect and behaviour of our members.
Within the club also are members personal equipment this should and MUST be treated with respect also, the owners of these boats will always have priority and if they give permission for club use it will only be when they are not there to use it.
All equipment remains under ownership of the club or specific members. When attending sessions club members do not have an automatic RIGHT to specific boats etc – boat selection will be decided by the instructor and the decision is final.
