Enough signatures have been collected in order to go forward with the annexation! However, a few steps have to be followed in order to complete the annexation.
You are welcome to attend the following meetings, but your attendance is not required.
1. Planning Commission – Monday, August 6, 2018 at 5:15 pm
- Green signs will be posted at the entrance to the neighborhood in the next few days to announce this meeting. An agenda should be available the Friday prior to the meeting if not before.
- Where – City Council Chambers, 3rd Floor of City Hall; 1737 Main Street
- What – The Planning Commission recommends a zoning district and a comprehensive plan “future land use” category for the area to City Council.
- The proposed City of Columbia zoning district is Single Family Residential (RS-1B), and the proposed future land use category is Urban Edge Residential – Small Lot.
2. City Council Public Hearing – Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 6:00 pm
- Red signs will be posted at the entrance to the neighborhood about 30 days prior to this meeting. You will also receive mailed notice of this hearing. Visit City Council's meeting page for the agenda, when it is available.
- Where – City Council Chambers, 3rd Floor of City Hall; 1737 Main Street
- What – The Public Hearing is the primary opportunity for you (or anyone interested in the annexation) to provide input to City Council on annexation.
- Following the Public Hearing, Council must vote twice in favor of annexation. Usually the first vote (also known as a reading) is the same day as the Public Hearing. The next vote—and date of annexation—will likely be on October 2, 2018, but is subject to change.
3. Annexation – This is the date of the 2nd affirmative vote (aka 2nd reading) by City Council. Tentatively scheduled for October 2, 2018 but subject to change.
4. Notification of Service Providers – Following Annexation, staff will notify City, County, State, and private service providers about the annexation. Visit www.columbiasc.net/annexation for more information.
