• IFP/PMP Late Summer Extenuating Circumstances Claim form

  • In the form, you will need to provide the correct email address of your Personal Tutor and the relevant Module Organiser. Please ensure that you enter these correctly. This is so that they can be notified of your request and the outcome. They will not be able to see the reasons for your request, nor any evidence you provide.

The regulations on EC claims for First Sits have been changed during the
Coronavirus COVID19 pandemic: any student who does not submit an assessment during the late summer assessments period will automatically be offered a First Sit at the next opportunity. You do not need to submit EC claims for these.

You only need to submit claims for First Sit or Resit assessments where you want an extension during August, or you would like to ask for the late penalties to be removed from an assignment submitted in August.

You need to make a separate claim for each element of assessment- ie if you missed two exams, you have to make two claims; if you missed 3 assignments (even if they're all in one module), you have to make 3 separate claims.

Summer First Sit/resit exams will take place from 17 August to 5 September 2020. Deadline for Coursework for IFP/PMP first sits/resits is 17 August at 23.55. If you need an extension to that deadline, you need to complete this form.

During the Coronavirus pandemic, we are waiving the requirement for evidence for your claims. This is because in the UK and elsewhere it is currently difficult to obtain any documentary evidence for medical issues, as well as for other situations. Please be assured that if we can accept your claim, we will.

School policy for the Late Summer Assessment period is to offer no more than 10 days’ extension to deadlines, so if you are asking for an extension on a First Sit or Resit, you can assume that it will be set for 27 August. So you need to submit your work as soon as you can, WITHOUT WAITING for a decision to be made on your EC claim.

The Senior Tutor for the School is Dr Laetitia Calabrese, and Rosine Smyrl is the Student Support Officer.  Rosine will process the EC claims for extenstions and make decisions on them in consultation with the Senior Tutor.

Any late summer assessments that are not submitted will automatically be
offered as First Sits at the next opportunity:

For Semester One modules: January 2021

For Semester Two or Year-long modules: May 2021

Confirmation of these will be sent by email in September, after the Exam Board. (remember that everyone will progress to their next year of study automatically, so trailing first sits won't affect your progression--you can still resume your studies in September no matter what)

If you have any questions, please contact Rosine Smyrl, Student Support Officer, on sllf-ec@qmul.ac.uk

If you fail any First Sit modules, you will be offered Resits. Resit module marks are capped at 40.  First Sit marks are not capped. If you fail Resits, you will not be offered another opportunity to pass the module without ECs being accepted.

Please contact Rosine Smyrl, SLLF Student Support Officer, sllf-ec@qmul.ac.uk  if you have any questions
