Completion of this questionnaire does not guarantee the adoption of a dog from Dog Rescue Newcastle (DRN). This questionnaire is a tool designed to help us source the best possible forever homes for the dogs that we rescue.
You should receive a reply within 5 - 7 business days of submitting your Adoption Questionnaire.
If your questionnaire is approved then a ‘yard check’ must be completed by a DRN volunteer who will report back to the foster carer and to DRN. If the yard check is positive then you'll be invited to meet the dog.
If your application is successful, the adoption fee must be paid in full prior to the release of the dog. All DRN dogs are subject to a two-week trial.
If you decide during the two-week trial that you do not want to keep the dog, then after you return the dog to DRN, the adoption fee - minus a $100 administration fee or your deposit - is refunded.

If more than one application is received for a particular dog then DRN will decide which application is the most suitable for the dog.
If the dog you apply for is adopted out to someone else, DRN volunteers can, upon request, try to recommend another suitable dog for you.
Please keep an eye on our website www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au or Facebook page because we add new dogs almost every day.
Thank you for applying to adopt a rescue dog and saving a life!
We understand that it may be quicker for you to get a dog from a pet shop or breeder so we appreciate your making the effort to adopt a dog and save a life.
There are many good reasons why it is better to adopt a rescued dog than to get one from any other source:
- You know what you are getting. The dog's foster carer can tell you all about his personality, preferences, and needs. They can advise about the suitability of their foster dog for your home.
- While in foster care, our dogs have time to recuperate from being in the pound. Their health is assessed and they are given any necessary treatment so they are healthy when they are adopted.
- All our dogs are desexed, vaccinated, and microchipped and have their flea and worm treatments up to date. Adult dogs are also lifetime registered with the NSW Animal Registry.
- While in foster care, they receive basic training and often house training.
- All of our dogs start out on a 2-week trial. If it doesn't work out, you can return the dog and get your money refunded less a $100 admin fee or your deposit if you paid one. Details: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/refunds/
- If you are no longer able to keep your rescue dog at any time, even years later, we will help you rehome him or her, or we will take him or her back.
- We are always here to support you for as long as you own one of our rescue dogs. If you have any questions or concerns at any time just give us a ring. We can help if your dog gets lost. We may be able to help arrange temporary or holiday care.
- If you don't have the time or dedication needed to raise and train a puppy then we are your best source of adult dogs. You can skip past the house training, chew, and chaos of a baby and choose an adult. Adults are already trained and their size and temperament are known-and you can teach an old dog new tricks!
- It sets a good example for your children. Adopting a rescue dog presents a wonderful opportunity to teach your children the essential values of compassion, caring, and the selfless act of giving someone a second chance.
- Most importantly, by adopting a dog rescued from death row at the pound, you are saving a life!
