About the Sonic Histories of Cork City (SHOCC Project)

The SHOCC Project investigates what locations and spaces in Cork City might have sounded like in various moments in the city’s past and what they currently sound like in the present. The SHOCC team has created this form so you can contribute to Cork's sonic history by recording sounds and telling stories of localities familar to you. The data you include will contribute to an online map of the sounds of Cork, as well as to a sound archive stored in UCC Library. Visit our website for more information about the SHOCC Project.

For sound recording we recommend these apps: Voice Recorder HD (iOS / Android), Sony Voice Recorder (Android) or Voice Record (iOS).

    About Your Data

Form: The form is created on JotForm in accordance with EU GDPR regulations.

Data Collection: Date/time, sound files, location of where the sound is and image data is collected on the form. Date/Time, sound files and location are necessary. Image data is optional. Data relating to where you uploaded the date/time, sound files, location of where the sound is or image data is not collected. Each JotForm submission can be submitted anonymously or you can include your name.

Data Use: The data submitted on each JotForm will automatically be uploaded to the SHOCC map. This map shows all the points in Cork City for where there are sounds. If you choose not to be anonymous then these points will also show your name as the submitter.

Data Storage: The data is stored on a Google Drive folder for this project only. The data will be stored for the length of the project. This folder can only be accessed by the members of the project team.

Data Preservation: As the long-term goal of the SHOCC Project is to create a sound archive all files will be stored in UCC Library indefinitely.
