INDIANA ALTERNATIVE COLLEGE AND CAREER PLANNING SYSTEM
Application for Adoption of an Alternative College and Career Planning System
Indiana state law (IC 20-30-5-14) allows a school corporation or charter school to request the Indiana State Board of Education to approve an alternative Internet based system and curriculum standards that provide students with college and career planning resources. This system will be an alternative to Indiana Career Explorer and to others currently approved by the State Board (accessible here). Upon submission of the request, the State Board, in consultation with the Department of Education and the Department of Workforce Development, may approve an alternative system and curriculum standards if the alternative system:
- has an aptitude assessment tool;
- contains educational course track information;
- has a tool for the preparation and development of the graduation plan prescribed in IC 20-30-4, including a parent sign in component;
- allows access to education and career demand information using data prepared by the department of workforce development; and
- is aligned to interdisciplinary employability skills standards prescribed in subsection (c). These are still currently under development.
Process for local approval of NEW College and Career Planning Systems:
***Before applying for your system’s approval, please check the list of approved Systems here. If your tool is on that list, you do not need to apply for approval.***
- Identify need: Determine if the College and Career Planning System your school corporation uses is not currently approved. Please check here to see the list of approved tools.
- Ensure the system meets the standards listed above: If those standards are not met, approval cannot be issued.
- Secure local approval from Governing Board.
- Complete the “Application for Adoption of an Alternative College and Career Planning System” form below.
- Staff from the State Board of Education, the Department of Education, and the Department of Workforce Development will review the application and make a recommendation to the State Board.
