Teacher Education at The New School for Music Study
Pedagogy Course and Applied Teaching Practicum 2018-2019
The pedagogy course serves piano teachers and pianists residing in the tri-state area. Modeled on the legacy programs from the NSMS, the program includes 5 pedagogy sessions designed to give a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals of piano teaching and learning, as well as special topics and guest appearances by master pedagogues through the FCC Residency Program.
The practicum focuses on the observation of lessons and classes at The New School for Music Study. Participants can expect to observe both individual and group instruction of a variety of levels, ages, and student types with a weekly focus on specific teaching elements. Individual intensive sessions with a mentor teacher will support the teaching practicum experience.
