UMPQUA VALLEY ARTS ASSOCIATION PRESENTS
A Juried Art Show and Competition
Umpqua Valley Arts Association is proud to present an open call for artists to submit work to our upcoming exhibit titled: LIKENESS. This juried exhibit explores representational artwork. Representational art strives to depict reality. Because representational artists are creative individuals, however, their work need not look precisely like the object they are representing. For example, Impressionist artists such as Renoir and Monet used patches of color to create visually compelling, representative paintings of gardens, people, and locations.
As we enter this time of unimaginable and rapid change, representational artwork offers the possibility of connecting with those parts of us that are most human. For forty thousand years, long before mankind invented written language, we have put down marks that left a living trace of who we are, what we saw, and what we thought. Representational artwork can make us pay attention to our surroundings as well as to ideas and relationships. We all have a story to tell.
