A Message from the Program Directors
Coaches and parents should maintain communication throughout the season and discuss issues as they arise. Every coach should hold a pre-season meeting for parents to attend, exchange information and discuss behavior and academic expectations. The coach and parents can agree to adjust a player’s participation in the volleyball program due to failure to maintain acceptable academic progress or if the player is experiencing discipline problems. Every team requires volunteers to assist the coach. This includes team parents, scorekeepers, lines people, and assistant coaches that can act as positive examples of good sportsmanship. Each parent should find a way to be involved with the overall operation of the team.
FAMILY CODE OF CONDUCT
(To be read and agreed to by each player and a parent/guardian)
- I understand that participation in this league is a privilege. I and/or my child can be removed from the program at any time for failure to follow league, Portland Public School District, and/or Portland Parks & Recreation rules.
- I understand that participation in this program is dependent upon school attendance.
- If a player does not attend school due to illness or truancy, please do not attend practice.
- If a player is suspended from school, that player will not be allowed to participate in practices, games or other league events until the terms of the suspension have been completed.
- If a player is expelled from school, that player will no longer be allowed to participate in the program.
- Players will be drug, alcohol and tobacco free.
- I agree to be respectful of teammates, coaches, program staff, officials and parents. I will be a courteous program participant and display good sportsmanship.
- I agree to arrive at practice no earlier than 5 minutes before the scheduled practice time and to leave immediately after practice ends. I will make transportation arrangements before each practice.
- I understand that the school building is closed to all visitors at 4:30 PM on school days. Except for the gym during the scheduled practice time, the school building is closed to visitors after 4:30 PM.
- I agree to follow the Coach’s instructions. Team coaches coordinate and supervise team practices and games and are responsible for the safety of the team. Not following directions can seriously jeopardize a player’s chance to participate.
- I understand that practices are for team players only. Siblings and friends will not be allowed in the building unless School Staff and/or the Community School Director grants permission before practice begins. Observers will stay seated in the bleacher area. Wandering the school halls and/or entering classrooms are not allowed.
- I understand that players are not permitted in the gym without an approved adult supervisor. Approval must be secured by school staff or the PP&R Sports Office or the Community School Director. This is a school district rule and there are no exceptions.
- Parents/guardians on the court during games: Parents/guardians are not allowed on the court at any time. Exception: A coach, while caring for an injured player, can direct parents/guardians to assist with the injured player.
