Thank you for your interest in having the parish community of the Cathedral of Saint Paul be a part of your family's religious education. Please read through the following carefully, in its entirety, before beginning the registration process.
Some items have changed!
Registration for children’s catechesis at the Cathedral for the 2018-2019 program year will be done online. If you have no internet access, please contact Stephen Hilgendorf (email@example.com; 651-357-1340) to complete the registration process.
Families registered as full members (parishioners) of the Cathedral are given first priority for the Cathedral’s religious education programs. If there are remaining spots available, they will be made available to non-parishioners. (By definition, Cathedral Associates/Friends are registered at a primary parish other than the Cathedral.) Non-parishioners wishing to be put on a waiting list should register their children at their earliest convenience, as registration date will be one factor in determining place on the waiting list. (Note: non-parishioner families who have older children in the Cathedral Choir School are welcome to register for the Wednesday afternoon Catechesis of the Good Shepherd classes.)
In addition to demographic information, you will need to have sacramental information ready for each child, as appropriate (date and place of reception of Baptism, First Reconciliation, and/or First Communion).
Please note that your registration is not complete until you have been contacted by the Cathedral with a confirmation of registration and an invoice for the appropriate fees.
Fees for children’s catechesis at the Cathedral for the 2018-2019 program year are as follows:
Registered Full Member of the Cathedral (Parishioner)
First Child $125
Second Child $100
Third Child $75
Each additional child $0
Sacramental prep fee $25/child
First Child $175
Second Child $150
Third Child $125
Each additional child $0
Once your registration has been received and verified, you will be sent an invoice detailing the amount of payment due and payment procedures. Some scholarship help is available for those in need of financial assistance. Application procedures for financial assistance will be detailed in the invoice.
THE ROLE OF PARENTS
The Catechism of the Catholic Church states,
The Christian home is the place where children receive the first proclamation of the faith. For this reason the family home is rightly called "the domestic church," a community of grace and prayer, a school of human virtues and of Christian charity. (§ 1666)
The Cathedral parish fully supports the Church’s vision of the parents’ responsibility as the primary instructors of their children in the faith, and we hope to work alongside parents in raising faith-filled children dedicated to Christ and his Church. If you are looking for ideas of how to carry on religious education at home, please talk with one of our children’s catechists or contact Stephen Hilgendorf (firstname.lastname@example.org; 651-357-1340).
SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION: In compliance with Archdiocesan guidelines, the Cathedral only offers sacramental preparation (First Communion/Confirmation) for its own registered, full parishioners. We encourage all families of other parishes to pursue sacramental preparation in their home parish.
SPECIAL NOTE FOR FIRST COMMUNION PREPARATION: In order to register your child for First Communion preparation, they must be seven (7) years old on or before September 1, 2018.
OUR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAMS
The Cathedral is blessed to be able to offer the two programs listed below.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, Level 1 (age 3 – Kindergarten)
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a Montessori-based program designed to teach the Catholic faith to the whole child. This year, the Cathedral of Saint Paul offers only Level 1 (ages 3-6). Catechesis of the Good Shepherd meets in the Cathedral’s lower level on Wednesday afternoons, 4:00-6:00 pm.
Faith and Life (grades 1-9)
Faith and Life is a strong, classroom-based curriculum of catechesis based on reading, discussion, question-and-answer and activities. The Cathedral of Saint Paul offers school grade-appropriate classes for grades 1 through 9 (including First Communion preparation in grade 2 and Confirmation prep in grades 8 & 9).
Faith and Life for grades 1-9 will meet at the Cathedral, on the lower level, from 6:30-7:45 pm on Wednesday nights.
PLEASE REGISTER by Sunday, September 17, 2018.
Religious education classes begin on Wednesday, September 20, 2018.
Thank you once again for your dedication to passing the Catholic faith on to your children. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about children’s catechesis at the Cathedral, please contact Stephen Hilgendorf, Director of Faith Formation (651.357.1340; email@example.com).
