  • Who We Are:

    We are a group of students passionate about serving and learning from under-resourced members of our community. Operating as a non-profit, we provide emergency loans that alleviate financial hardship for clients facing difficult circumstances. By lengthening loan terms and offering an APR of 21%, we present an accommodating alternative to exploitative payday loans.

  • Division Descriptions

    Accounting

    Serve within the accounting department for a fully operational 501(c)3 as well as communicate with clients and donors, maintain the financial record keeping system, and publish financial statements at year-end

    Business Development (Marketing & Development):

    Drives the implementation of JIFFI marketing initiatives to help raise awareness of JIFFI in the South Bend community

    Advances fundraising efforts through engaging in community & alumni outreach to find individuals and groups of people to help with generating funds to help JIFFI further its mission

    Assists with managing our social media accounts, uses WordPress to keep our website up-to-date, creates promotional tools, and disseminates quarterly newsletters to donors and community partners

    Community Relations

    Establishes and maintains close ties with over a dozen community partners: coordinating mutual referrals, distributing marketing materials, and organizing both service and fundraising events to give back to the broader South Bend community

    Community Relations also regularly updates and helps design our website and community resource directory

    Credit

    Makes decisions about whether or not JIFFI can offer each client a loan, based on their financial position and demonstrated need. Decisions are made as a team, and every member's voice is valuable

    Financial Empowerment Program (FEP)

    Meets with members of the community to give them the knowledge and advice they need to succeed in the long-term

    Meets with individual clients to go through FEP curriculum and helps to empower them financially

     

    Legal

    Conducts research and meets with our legal aid in order to ensure that all legal documents and operations continue to comply with changing federal and state legislation

    Loan Division

    Meets with clients to help them through the loan application

    Maintains relationships with clients during the time they have a loan and even after if they need additional resources

    Refers clients towards relevant resources

    Operations

    Improves existing processes and locates emerging technologies that can help the organization be as efficient as possible

    Takes processes that are not uniform or take too long and finds ways to make them consistent across a division/the organization and speeds them up
