Our Terms & Conditions
Course Content and Study Time
As a guideline, the core and specialist units are expected to take 60+ hours each to study, including completion of the assignment. The content of the course is subject to change periodically at the discretion of the IIMS Education Committee.
The language of the Course
The course will be conducted entirely in verbal and written English, so a high level of the spoken and written English language is essential. Applications showing a poor grasp of English will be rejected.
Entry Criteria (please have at least one of the following):
- A Level standard or equivalent in appropriate science subjects
- Level 3 Diploma qualification or equivalent
- NVQ Level 4 or equivalent and minimum DTI Class Two Certificate of Competency
- Candidates with no formal qualifications but who are able to demonstrate a number of years relevant industry experience are more than welcome to apply.
Course Start Dates
Applicants may opt for any start date.
Confidentiality
Students are advised that assignments are processed as confidential and will not be shared with any third party outside of the IIMS.
Data Protection
IIMS holds your data in a secure environment. It is not shared with anyone other than head office education staff, tutors, assessors and markers. It is not IIMS policy ever to sell your data. Occasionally we will email you about your course and to advise you of forthcoming IIMS training events and other information relevant to your studies.
Course Fees and Payment
When your application is approved, you will be contacted and we will arrange to pro-forma invoice you based on the payment preference you have given us. The total investment in your Professional Qualification in Commercial Ship Marine Surveying is £2,950. You have two years to complete your studies. For this, you receive four core units and four specialist units of your choice. If additional time and an extension is required, that can be arranged at a cost.
If you have chosen to pay 50% of your total fees (£1,475) before the start of your course, you will be invoiced for the remaining 50% three months later.
What is not included in the Fees
Reading and reference material is at your cost. It is strongly recommended that you read as many relevant books as possible to enhance your knowledge base. You can purchase recommended books new, or second-hand, or borrow them from a library.
For those students who want to gain the Advanced Professional Qualification, there is an additional charge of £1,000 and a further one year to complete the additional four specialist units of your choice.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellation is to be made in writing before the start date of the course and the applicant will receive a full refund less an administrative charge of £250. No refund is offered after the start of the course. After four units have been uploaded no refund will be issued.
Unlimited access to IIMS head office team
Students are encouraged to contact the head office education team at any time for assistance and support. IIMS wants you to be successful in your studies, so ask for help rather than struggling. In some cases IIMS can connect you directly with tutors, who can assist you.
