This camp will be held from Sunday the 9th to Saturday the 15th of December at the Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club clubhouse, 163 Surf Parade, Inverloch.
Meet and greet will be at the ISLSC Clubhouse at 12.30pm on Sunday the 9th. We will then proceed to the Wonthaggi YMCA pool to complete pre-requisite timed swim (400m in under 9mins). It is important that all candidates arrive on time. If you are unable to be there on time, you must contact the Chief Instructor to make alternative arrangements. It is essential that all candidates have practiced this swim before attending camp as failure to meet the requirement may result in a request to withdraw from the camp. This is a expectation of Life Saving Victoria to be a Surf Life Saver.
All meals and snacks are included as part of the camp. If you have any dietary requirements please specify them on the form provided below to ensure we can cater for your needs.
Candidates will be trained in fitness, water work, first aid and resuscitation through scenarios, theory and practical work. All camp leaders volunteer their time and are qualified training officers from within the club. Supervision will be provided at all times with appropriate water safety provided during water work. Leaders and candidates will have access to a mentor who can provide further support should it be needed.
Assessment will be held over the last three days of camp, taking pressure off it all being held on the one day. The exam is divided between testing all the theoretical knowledge candidates have learnt over the week; first aid, signals, resuscitation, patient carry techniques, patient assessments, radio communication, as well as all the practical components including; run-swim–runs, rescue techniques on board and with tube, a number of different patrol scenario’s and surf awareness. After successful completion participants will be qualified to patrol. Presentation of uniforms will be held after the assessment session and clubhouse pack up.
Inverloch Surf Lifesaving Club values the relationships between peers within the club and through the Bronze Medallion camp we hope to foster positive relationships between candidates, encouraging teamwork and support for others. In previous years we have found candidates attending bronze camp form a special bond over the week resulting in long term friendships. As the camp leaders are active patrolling members, candidates also have the opportunity to become familiar with more senior members of Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club.
During the camp candidates and leaders are representing Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club and are expected to behave in a manner that supports Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club and Surf Life Saving Australia's values. Under no circumstances is alcohol to be brought to or consumed during the camp. Smoking during the camp is discouraged as Surf Lifesaving Australia encourages healthy behaviour. Unacceptable behaviour is not tolerated at Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club and camp management reserves the right to send candidates home if any behaviour is deemed inappropriate.
The cost of the camp is $250 plus membership fees and uniform cost (if required). The total cost will be calculated and displayed on the form below.
