I am a member/visitor of Friendship-West Baptist Church located in Dallas, TX- pastored by Rev. Dr. Frederick D. Haynes, III. Today, we are centering our worship service on addressing childhood hunger. As Congress works on the fiscal year 2019 budget and spending bills, I ask you to invest in and protect key programs that will reduce hunger and poverty in this nation. According to Bread for the World, people of color in Texas are 3 times more likely to live with hunger and poverty. I am writing to advocate for just food policies that will end childhood hunger in our communities!
Our country and the world have made progress against hunger and poverty in recent decades. I want you to support and invest in programs like SNAP, WIC, and tax credits for low-income workers through just public policies. Continued funding for programs that reduce hunger and poverty around the world are also important to me.
My faith and moral authority calls me to love and care for people in need. I am calling on you to demonstrate moral courage and make public investments that will move us forward as a society and end childhood hunger in the state of Texas.
Sincerely,
