Adoption Fees: Fees are listed on each pet's online listing. If the pet is already in a local foster home, the fee is due at placement. If the pet is still in Oklahoma, the fee must be paid in advance and is non-refundable. We'll send a PayPal invoice — no PayPal account required. Fees help cover vetting and transport costs for pets rescued from Oklahoma.
Character and Temperament: Rescue pets may have experienced neglect, abuse, or abandonment, plus the stress of transport and a new home. Some need days or weeks to adjust, though many settle in quickly. Behavior can change in a new environment, just as it might for a person in a new situation. Any known behavioral issues are noted in the pet's profile. All our pets are loving and deserve a home that's the right fit for them.
Placement: Submitting this application doesn't guarantee placement — a pet stays available to other approved adopters until the adoption fee is paid. You must agree to a home visit if requested, send follow-up photos if asked, and never rehome or surrender the pet to a shelter. You'll receive medical records (vaccines, spay/neuter, and other vetting) with your pet or from the transporter. Raise any health or temperament concerns at the time of placement. All pets must be returned to us if you're ever unable or unwilling to keep them — they cannot be euthanized for non-medical reasons, surrendered to a shelter, or rehomed.
Acknowledgement: Misrepresenting facts may result in the pet being removed from your home. Desiderata Rescue has done its best to accurately describe the pet's temperament, habits, and health, but isn't responsible for the accuracy of that information or liable for any damage, injury, or accident related to placing this pet. Once placed, you take full responsibility for the pet's health, housing, feeding, training, companionship, safe containment, and care.
