• Career Questionnaire - part 1

The first step in resolving any career concern is often to articulate it clearly and then share it (in strict confidence). This form will facilitate that process.
  • How long have you been concerned about your career?*
  • Your profession*
  • Which of these is closest to your current feelings about work*
  • Which is closest to your current work status*
  • Which of the following comments ring true for your current career situation (you may tick more than one)*
  • Do you think you may have burnout? (We ask as burnout has impact on career planning.*
  • Tip 1
There are usually a number of things preventing a person move forwards on career dreams or find solutions to unsustainable work situations.

One of these is being too busy to think .

If you can ... begin to think about how you might allocate some regular (weekly) protected ( ie uninterrupted 'me-time') time for career planning.

  • Taking action - part 2

Do you need to and when?
  • What is the degree to which your current career concern is worrying you?*
  • By when do you want to have a good motivating career plan? *
  • How much time have you put to career planning related activities in the past month ( ones taking you somewhere you want to move towards) ?*

  • How much time are you willing or able to allocate each week to getting your career into a better place and balance*

  •
  • Tip 2

It is not just the allocation of time to career planning activities that is important but also the 'timing'.

There are thus times when other things just need to take priority such as:

...exams , weddings, new babies, health issues, burnout , appraisals , moving house and more.

So choosing the right moment to tackle career concerns is just as important as allocating regular time.

  • How can we help ? Part 3

Taking action... where to start ?
  • Which of the following sounds as if it would be most useful*

  • Tip 3

Along with time allocation and timings .. timeframes are also important.

Some people are highly realistic when it comes to the timeframe for resolving career concerns. Others seem to think that things can be resolved in a phonecall or in days/ weeks. But when the current situation has taken many years to arise it is more realistic to think in terms of months.

The reasons that tackling deep seated career concerns or planning new career goals can take months... is that it simply takes time to assess, clarify and  unravel  things properly and then & to generate and explore options, forge / implement the new plans. Cultivating realistic timeframe expectations from an early stage in career planning is important so as not to lose momentum or give up due to unrealistic hopes.
