Grant Category: Art & Culture
Grade: Seventh & Eighth
Funding Goal: $1000.00
The goal is to integrate fine arts into the core curriculum and make cross-curricular connections for both 7th and 8th grades. The teachers are adjusting the schedule to include a time for arts education and therapeutic group counseling with a focus on artistic expression.
The Alternative Education Middle School is Harford County's most at-risk middle school students in a small setting. The program does not have the staffing for an art teacher; however, teachers have created a program to integrate art into the curriculum and provide an outlet for students. Our students are typically 85-100% Free and Reduced meals. Many of our students are below reading level, chronically truant and struggle with the behavioral issues that brought them to our program.
