Background: The PGA of America is the largest working sports organization in the world with over 28,000 members and associates and over 400 staff members throughout the country. As “experts in the game and business of golf,” the purpose of the PGA is to promote the enjoyment of and involvement in the game of golf, and to contribute to its growth by serving millions of people throughout its 41 Sections nationwide.
The Northern Texas PGA, headquartered in Dallas, Texas, is one of the 41 Sections of The PGA of America. The Northern Texas PGA is comprised of approximately 850 PGA Members and Associates and 300 golf facilities. The Northern Texas PGA also operates a non-profit and charitable foundation that focuses on four pillars: junior golf, college scholarships, military and veterans, and fellowships.
Junior Tour Description: The Northern Texas PGA Junior Tour is one of the largest of its kind in the country. It has a membership of over 4,000 junior golfers ages 7-19 and conducts over 450 tournaments annually. Tournaments vary in their degree of competitiveness and are for junior golfers of all skill levels. Although the NTPGA Junior Tour fosters competition, its primary goals are to grow the game of golf, continue skill development and encourage fellowship, good sportsmanship, honesty and integrity, while setting the stage for a lifetime of playing golf.
Internship Description and Responsibilities: The Northern Texas PGA is seeking qualified applicants for a 13-week internship position in golf tournament operations. Successful applicants will be responsible for helping to conduct all day-to-day operations of the Junior Tour including, but not limited to:
- On-site responsibilities such as registration, tee set-up, starting, rules officiating, scoring, and awards presentations
- Effectively communicate with parents, juniors, and host professional staff
- Reconciliation of financial and result summaries
- Manage Company equipment inventory and maintenance
- Provide occasional in-office support of Junior Tour programming
Compensation:
- All interns will be compensated at $7.50 per hour (minimum wage is $7.25 per hour) (pre-tax)
- All interns will be compensated at $11.25 per hour if / when they work more than 40 hours per week (pre-tax)
- Five (5) PGA staff golf shirts
- Three (3) PGA Hats
- School credit (if applicable)
Internship Dates: May 21 - August 13, 2019 (start and finish dates are somewhat flexible based on successful applicant’s school schedules)
