Petition- Demand for All Gender Facilities

This year’s Hong Kong Pride Parade “Highlight of the year” is All-Gender Facilities. In a gender binary environment, facilities such as toilets, changing rooms and even fitting rooms in shops are differentiated by male or female. Some minorities such as transgender people or family carers may feel embarrassed when using these facilities. Increasing ‘All-Gender Facilities’ in the community not only benefits the majority of people but also pay respect and gives a better choice for those minorities.

Therefore, we initiate the action "Petition- Demand for All Gender Facilities" to collect your support together and express the need for all-gender equality to the government, public organizations and operators of public facilities. Prompting quick follow up and planning for this issue to not just stay on paper through this joint campaign.

    Petition letter:

    Demand for All Gender Facilities

Toilets, changing rooms and even fitting rooms in shops are differentiated by male or female. Thus, transgender people or family carers face great pressure in using gender-binary facilities. Increasing ‘All-Gender Facilities’ in the community not only benefits the majority of people but also pay respect and gives a better choice for those minorities]

Transgender people face difficulties in using gender-binary facilities due to the mismatch between who they are, how they look like with the gender enlisted on their HK identity card. On the other hand, not only the LGBT+ community needed these facilities, male carers taking care of female youngsters and daughter with frail father etc are one of the many carers that also faced the challenge of not able to use accommodating facilities when taking care of them once they left home. All-Gender facilities alleviate this pressure by being gender-friendly, allowing people in need to use public facilities in a respected and equal manner.

I support Hong Kong government to incorporate the concept of gender-friendly in urban planning, and having all-gender facilities such as toilets, changing rooms, fitting rooms etc. in public facilities, public and private leisure and entertainment grounds, companies and offices, in malls and other public areas. Enhance Hong Kong in social integration and cohesion, polishing the steps in becoming a gender-friendly cosmopolitan city.
