Given required course approval timelines, we understand that submitted course syllabi may not yet be final. In order to allow CAP to judge whether the course is likely to meet the college’s standard for academically engaged time, your draft course syllabus should include the following:
The grading rubric (consistent with the information requested by the prompt below referred to as, “Assessment of student academic performance by grade percentage”);
An outline of the arc of broad course topics over the 13-week semester, with out-of-class expectations (assignments; readings) articulated in detail for a few representative weeks;
A statement to alert students to the amount of time you expect them to prepare for this course per week (recommended)
If you would like advice and feedback on your syllabus, please contact your Chair and/or the Director or Teaching Mentors of our Sherrerd Center for Teaching and Learning.
