The FIH Pro League is a brand new international Hockey series, bringing 18 of the world’s best Hockey nations together to play a round robin style international tournament. Kicking off in January 2019 – it will replace the Champions’ Trophy and the World League Semi Finals and World League Final. It will provide – for the first time ever – a regular calendar of must-see hockey played in packed stadia across the world throughout the year.

Australia will be one of the first nations to host of league matches and Hockey Australia are looking to recruit a number of volunteers to assist with the smooth delivery of this exciting international spectacle.

Volunteering is a great way to gain essential experience. It is highly valued across all sectors of the workforce and in life. 85% of current staff members at Hockey Australia have voluntary experience on their resumes.

Hockey Australia is the national governing body of Hockey in Australia. Australia has a proud, successful history in Hockey, having won 4 Olympic Gold and 8 minor Olympic Medals along with 35 Champions Trophy finals appearances. Pro League signals a new direction for international hockey and with the format looking to involve more teams in the future it is a great time to be involved in the sport as it broadens its reach.
Essential Requirements

· Working with children check

· 16 years or older (14 years+ for ball patrol)

· Have confirmed local accommodation and the ability to get to and from venues in your host city

· Have strong communication skills, be approachable, personable and friendly, willing to go the extra mile in to deliver a successful event
All volunteers receive:

· Written reference for volunteers able to commit to 2 or more days of full competition

· Accreditation allowing them access to the venue for their designated shift

· Knowledge you contributed to the delivery of international sporting event

Ball Patrol Co-ordinator – Co-ordinate the ball patrol squad in your host city, arrange ball patrol rostering and coach of ball patrol during matches. You will be required to watch games, focusing on the performance of ball patrol. Experience is required for this role. Please be aware a significant portion of this role will need to be complete outside of event hours in the lead up to the competitionBall Patrol – Ball Patrol are responsible for ensuring the prompt efficiency of games by supplying and retrieving balls during play. Typically aged 14-18 years ball patrollers need to remain focused for the duration of games, have strong hand-eye co-ordination skills and good general fitness. Experience in hockey is advantageous- PLEASE NOTE THIS ROLE IS FULL FOR MELBOURNE MATCHESTicket Scanner – Working with our ticketing provider you will welcome patrons and assist people entering the event by scanning tickets and providing basic venue informationAccreditation Assistant – You will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the Accreditation Centre, including pass production, pass distribution, customer service and assistance with enquiries·Crowd Control Assistant- Responsible for ensuring that only accredited individuals gain access to certain parts of the venue. Crowd Control Assistants will have good local knowledge and confidence to engage with the public and tournament delegatesMascot – Dress up as the Australian team mascots- Flick the Hockeyroo and Swoop the Kookaburra- interact with fans, participate in activation's and help create memories for our audiencesActivation Zone Supervisor- Join our Hookin2Hockey Zone, supervising kids and families playing hockey in our inflatable pitch area.Sports Presentation- Working with our sports presentation partner Glue Content you will engage the audience with interesting and exciting crowd-activation's during game fixturesEvent Operations- Assist prior and post event with general bump in and bump out duties such as setting up marquees, packing/unpacking equipment, the set-up of venue signage, fencing installation and other manual duties as directed at event timeMedia Journalist-This unique opportunity will give you a firsthand insight into the world of professional sport. Work with Hockey Australia’s media team to interview professional athletes and coaches and produce high quality written content, content for hockey.org.au and wider distributionDigital Production-Gain valuable experience in the sports media space by assisting our digital team with content capture, video creation and distribution across a range of social media platforms for the Kookaburras and Hockeyroos
Scenario: You are partof a team of 6 that is travelling across the Kimberley’s. There are 6 key roles that need to be fulfilled within the team for it to be a success; which area of responsibility would you put your hand up to lead on and why:

1. Transport maintenance-ensure that the mechanics of the transport vehicles are running smoothly, that the car has enough petrol and water to get to your next location, you have the right cords and leads on hand and the ability to fix small malfunctions

2. Packhorse- For part ofthe journey you are required to hike overland. Without access to vehicles you are required to carry belongings on your back. Not all team members have the same amount of strength and physical fitness, you are required to carry the bulk of the teams weighty essentials such as a tent, cooking utensils and food

3. Motivator- This challengeis a marathon not a sprint, and you are the person we look to be keep spirits high. You are approachable and friendly and look for the positive even on a long tiring day. You are up for dishing out high fives, doing a silly dance and keeping moral up

4. Injector- Like the motivatoryou are a positive person. Friendly, people feel comfortable approaching you and asking questions, normally which you have the answers to. You add anelement of fun to the team and are looking for ways to get everyone involved in the excitement of the day

5. Map Reader- you like process and following the rules. Once you have the instructions you are comfortable distributing them and ensuring that the plan is carried out. You might not have the best physical fitness but from your central position you can lead the team via radio to their desired destination.

6. Plugger- The plugger fills gaps wherever needed. The transport has sprung a leak? They cover the hole while maintenance fixes the issue. Packhorse cannot carry all the food, you add extra to your bag. The team needs a pick up, you tell a funny story.Out in front there is a fork in the road, you radio to the map reader to find out the best route ahead. You are the helper that everyone needs
