About: Officially declared biology majors in their junior year submit competitive proposals for a chance to be selected for a deKiewiet Fellowship Stipend. This funding will allow the student to stay in Rochester during the upcoming summer and do research with a faculty member of their choice.
All interested will need to find a member of the UR teaching faculty with a biological science lab who will agree to supervise an undergraduate's research project and the writing of their scientific research proposal.
In addition to the proposal, candidates must also prepare other documentation supporting their application, as listed in the "Application Process" section below. Please note that laboratories can be located on River Campus or in the Medical Center.
de Kiewiet Fellows work for ten weeks during June, July, and August in the labs of their research mentor and receive a stipend of $5,000.
In addition, fellows will need to create and present a poster of their research findings at the UPBM Poster Session in October of their fellowship year.
Project Requirements: Summer projects must be rooted within the biological sciences. Projects need to be hypothesis-driven and non-clinical (no patient studies.) Although clinical studies may inspire some scientific arguments, the proposed research should yield data from experimentation that involves laboratory and computational methods for further analysis.
Eligibility: All officially declared UPBM majors in their junior year are eligible to apply.
