  • Student Eligibility Criteria

    Medical student members currently enrolled in an Illinois-based medical school and residing in Illinois with a graduation date of May 2028 or later.  Preference will be given to applicants who have served or are serving on an IAFP committee or member interest group, attended any IAFP events or activities (including Family Medicine Midwest), or currently/previously served in a leadership position in their campus FMIG. The selected student will serve as the student member of the IAFP board of directors from July 1, 2027 to June 2028.This is a two-year commitment. You must be an AAFP/IAFP member to apply.
  • Resident Eligibility Criteria

    Family medicine residents must be currently enrolled as PGY-1 in an Illinois family medicine residency program. PGY-2s who are planning a fellowship year in Illinois may also apply. Preference will be given to applicants who have served or are serving on an IAFP committee or interest group, have participated in an IAFP event as a student or resident, or have attended a previous Family Medicine Midwest conference. President-elect will serve as Resident President for the subsequent term (July 20267to June 2028) as the resident or member of the IAFP board of directors. This is a two-year commitment.
  • IAFP will support diversity, equity, and inclusion in all its forms, recognizing that these require an enduring commitment that must find full expression in our organizational culture, values, activities and behaviors.

    Requirements of the President-elect: Serve as the Illinois delegate to the AAFP's FUTURE of Family Medicine Conference July 30 - August 1 in Kansas City (learn more about delegate role and responsibilities here). The selected resident/student will represent Illinois’ interests, attend all the required sessions and cast Illinois’ votes at the student and resident Congresses.  Do not apply unless you can attend all sessions and all days of the conference. 

    IAFP will fund your conference registration and eligible travel expenses in accordance with our reimbursement policy. 

    A written report will be required to IAFP within 30 days of the conference to be posted on the IAFP website.

    Other Requirements: Join an IAFP committee or member interest group (if not already on one). 

    Will be called upon to represent Illinois residents or students at various opportunities, such as doing Zoom or in-person interviews with pre-medical or high school students interested in family medicine. The president-elect is asked to serve as a backup to the resident or student president at the IAFP board meetings by Zoom Sept 23 at 7pm and in person meeting November 14 (tentative) in Naperville.
