‘Upcycling Port Moody’s Heritage’ is a four-week exhibition of artistic upcycling imagination and creativity held in partnership with the Port Moody Arts Centre.
2019 is the 50th Anniversary of the Port Moody Heritage Society. The Society’s primary goal is to develop and maintain a museum for the preservation of information, records and objects and to select items from the collection to display in a meaningful way for the public. The Port Moody Station Museum protects and preserves the community memory bank of Port Moody’s social, industrial and cultural heritage.
Reduce; reuse and recycle are terms that are not normally associated with a museum. Artifacts are protected, restored and preserved for display and use as originally created.
We all know the importance of recycling but for those with creative minds; “upcycling” is much more interesting! The concept of upcycling is the process of transforming waste material and unwanted products into something useful and beautiful.
For the 50th Anniversary Exhibition we invite artists of all mediums to employ the creativity of ‘Upcycling’ in sculpture, collage, assemblages, furniture and more to explore and showcase Port Moody’s social, industrial and cultural heritage.
