The OQHYA Board of Directors governs the overall execution of the organization’s mission. Principally, the Board manages organizational finances and sets long term priorities for programs, fundraisers, social activities and annual award programs.
The Board of Directors has up to 12 voting members. Terms are for two years. Officers (president and vice president, secretary and treasurer) are elected annually for a 1-year term. The term for the current Board of Directors election cycle will begin on January 1, 2019 and end on December 31, 2020. Applicants must be members of AQHYA and OQHYA at the beginning of elected term (1/1/19) and must remain members throughout their entire term. Failure to maintain proper membership may result in termination of elected position, as the discretion of the board of directors.
Board Member responsibilities include attendance at monthly in-person meetings, as well as teleconference meetings and active electronic conversations as part of Board committees. In some years the Board has held additional meetings & retreats as deemed necessary by the Youth Advisor.

Board positions require a time and energy commitment that should not be underestimated. Candidates are urged to consider personal priorities for the duration of the stated term as well as the ways to contribute to the development of the organization.

According to OQHYA Bylaws, Article IV, Section 3: Quorum Board members must be present for all scheduled board meetings and activities. Monthly board meetings shall be a combination of phone and in-person meetings and work session retreats. Attendance is mandatory for all board meetings – exceptions may be grated for approved absence by the President or Youth Advisor per the association bylaws.
