  • CITI Program honors our co-founder, the late Dr. Paul Braunschweiger (1947-2024), by awarding an annual scholarship. The Dr. Paul Braunschweiger Scholarship is intended to provide funds for an emerging professional to attend a conference in research ethics focused on the areas of the care and use of animals in research, the protection of human subjects in research, responsible conduct of research, or core components of research compliance or administration. 

    Interested individuals are invited to complete the following questionnaire to determine eligibility. Candidates who meet the minimum eligibility criteria for the scholarship will be invited to complete a more extensive application process.

  • CITI Program honors our co-founder, the late Dr. Paul Braunschweiger (1947-2024), by awarding an annual scholarship. The Paul Braunschweiger Scholarship is intended to provide funds for an emerging professional to attend a conference in research ethics focused on the areas of the care and use of animals in research, the protection of human subjects in research, responsible conduct of research, or core components of research compliance or administration. 

    Requirements

    • Must be an employee, or committee member of an IRB or IACUC, of a CITI Program subscribing organization that has an active CITI Program subscription.
    • Must currently have primary responsibility, job duties, or committee work associated with at least one of the following:
      • Care and use of animals in research/IACUC
      • Human subjects protection/IRB
      • Responsible conduct of research
      • Research compliance
      • Research administration
    • Must have at least two years’ experience in one of the areas noted in the scholarship requirements above.
    • The conference for which the funds will be used must be held in the U.S. within the next calendar year following award of the scholarship, and be one of the following identified conferences:
      • Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R)
      • Scientists Center for Animal Welfare (SCAW)
      • Society of Research Administrators (SRA)
      • National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA)
      • Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) Research Community Forum
      • American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS)
      • Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP)
    • The funds may only be used to attend a single conference.
      • Conference attendance may not exceed five (5) days.
      • Awardee may be responsible for costs incurred due to late cancellations.
    • A maximum of three individuals from any single CITI Program institution will be considered.
    • One annual scholarship will be awarded from the first 100 completed and qualifying applications received.
    • The recipient of the Dr. Paul Braunschweiger Scholarship will provide CITI Program with a written article/blog post or short video about their conference experience and its impact on their education and professional development

    Letter of Recommendation - A letter of recommendation is required from an individual administratively responsible for the area in which you indicated you are employed or have an affiliated regulatory role, at this organization (for example, the Institutional Official/Signatory Official, IRB Administrator, or Research Integrity Officer). The letter should identify your work and any professional activities within the organization and the research ethics/compliance area you noted. Please attach the letter, on organizational letterhead, to the application below.

    CV or Resume – A current CV/resume is required including information about relevant areas associated with the purpose of the scholarship.

    Completed applications (including letter of recommendation and current curriculum vita) are due by 5 PM eastern on September 19, 2025.

  • Legal Disclaimer: A scholarship committee appointed by CITI Program shall be the sole decision-maker regarding the award of any scholarship, and its decision will be final.  CITI Program reserves the right to discontinue, withdraw, or amend the terms of any scholarship at any time without prior notice. CITI Program is under no obligation to provide any scholarship and all scholarships are subject to funding availability. Submitting a scholarship application does not create any contractual agreement/relationship between the applicant and CITI Program. The applicant shall not have legal or equitable recourse against CITI Program concerning any scholarship or scholarship application.
     
    Publicity and Photo Release: Applicant grants CITI Program the absolute and irrevocable right and unrestricted permission to use applicant’s name, likeness, image, voice, and/or appearance as such may be embodied in photos, video recordings, audiotapes, digital images, and the like. Applicant understands and agrees that these materials will become the property of CITI Program and will not be returned. Applicant grants CITI Program the authority to edit, alter, copy, publish or distribute such photos or recordings for purpose of publicizing CITI Program or any other lawful purpose.  In addition, applicant waives the right to inspect or approve the finished product, including written or electronic copy, wherein the likeness may appear. Applicant acknowledges that applicant will not receive any compensation for the use of such images, video, likeness, etc. 

    Applicant hereby releases and discharges CITI Program from any and all claims and demands arising out of or in connection with the use of applicant’s name, likeness, image, voice and/or appearance, including any and all claims for invasion of privacy, right of publicity, misappropriations or misuse of image, and/or defamation.

    Official Recognition and Permission: By signing below, applicant certifies that any information and/or documentation submitted in support of this application are accurate and truthful. Application information will become the property of CITI Program and will not be returned.
