8:30 AM—3:00 PM
Jewish sacred mythology (the Hebrew Bible and rabbinic midrash) paint vivid portraits of the evil Egyptian Pharaoh alongside the righteous, and so human, Moses. These icons represent parts of ourselves with which we wrestle: parts we need to tame and others we want to cultivate and strengthen.
Taking time to consider the parts of ourselves that cover fear with rigidity and hardness (Pharaoh) that we wish to tame and, likewise, the parts of ourselves seeking faith in the face of doubt, finding courage in the face of adversity and challenge (Moses and Miriam) can be valuable for each us and for our larger community.
At our Makom Winter Contemplative Day Retreat, led by Rabbi Rachel and master storyteller Noa Baum, we will explore multiple modalities in service of this soul-honing work. Participants will have the opportunity to practice meditation, yoga, prayer, contemplative text study and story sharing in the course of a day together - along with friends old and new. Sponsored by Makom@Adat Shalom.
