Boston Day and Evening Academy engages young adults to build a vision for their future through supportive relationships and meaningful competency-based learning experiences. To support this mission, BDEA offers a supportive, safe, and engaging school culture with wraparound support for Postgraduate planning along with unique programming elements:
- Program options to accommodate students’ personal schedules:
- Day program: 9:00AM - 2:30PM
- Evening program: 10:00AM - 3:30PM
- Early release Wednesdays and Fridays for Career Exploration and Enrichment classes
- Academic support classes from 3:30PM - 4:30PM for all students
- Competency-based teaching and assessment lets you earn credit for what you know
- Small class size
- An advisory that meets three times a week to support social and academic growth
- Unique learning opportunities:
- Project-based learning during our unique four-week Project Month
- Career Exploration and Enrichment classes that expose students to career options and focus on 21st century skills important for post graduate success (e.g. Music Production, Culinary Skills, Art, Health Careers, Career Readiness, etc.)
- Different programs: The Flagship competency-based model and BDEA 2.0 which focuses on work-based learning with required internships and a self-directed pathway-based model towards college or a career
- Four graduation ceremonies every year, giving you the opportunity to receive your diploma when you have fulfilled all graduation requirements

STEP 2: Lottery |
If there are more applications than students, we need to conduct a public lottery, held at BDEA. Date and time will be posted on our website two weeks prior to the lottery.
If you apply after the school year has started prior to the posted application deadline, and there is no waitlist currently maintained, then you will receive an offer of admission. If there is a waitlist, your application will be processed after the initially created waitlist has been exhausted.

STEP 3: Acceptance phone call or letter |
If you are accepted, we will reach you by phone or letter with your start date. You will have two weeks to respond to that contact to reserve your seat. Please call us back and let us know you want to attend BDEA!
Also make sure you are enrolled in Boston Public Schools and send us your most recent transcripts (bring to orientation if not). If you have any questions about your current enrollment status in BPS, please check with the Re-Engagement Center at 617-635-2273 or visit your neighborhood BPS welcome center.

STEP 4: Paperwork and orientation |
Once you have accepted a seat at BDEA and are officially enrolled in BPS, you will participate in a three-day orientation where you will learn more about BDEA's school culture and its unique competency-based system of teaching and learning. You will also complete diagnostic and placement tests in Math and Humanities. This testing is for course credit and placement purposes only. Once you complete orientation, you will begin your first Trimester.
If possible, please be sure we have your current transcripts at this point or we can't put you in the right courses!

Preference:
BDEA’s mission is to serve Boston students up to age 22 who are two years or more behind grade level. BDEA students must be residents of the City of Boston. By charter school law, all Horace Mann Charter Schools, including BDEA, must admit students in the following order of preference:
- Siblings of students currently enrolled at BDEA. (Sibling are defined for this purpose as persons who have a common parent, either biologically or legally through adoption.) These will be considered Priority 1.
- Students who are currently enrolled in the public schools of the Boston Public Schools District. These will be considered Priority 2.
- All other students who reside in the city of Boston will be considered Priority 3.
