PLEASE READ THIS AND SIGN THE FORM AT THE END.
COMPLETE ONE FORM PER STUDENT.
The CoderDojo is completely volunteer run. As such, we need all participants to do their part to make our CoderDojo great! We will not have the capacity to offer specialized attention, manage behavior plans, and supervise strict discipline. Students who require direct one to one instruction can be accompanied by a parent with prior approval from the CoderDojo Champion Team.
The CoderDojoCollaborative is hosted at San Antonio College, sponsored by Commonwealth Computer Company, and supported by Rackspace, USAA, the City of San Antonio, and Southwest Research. Volunteers are professionals who lend their own time to work with the Ninja's. Some of the organizations represented through the volunteer base are: Rackspace, Alamo Colleges, The City of San Antonio, UTSA, Accenture, Harlendale Independent School District, The U.S. Navy, Southwest Research Institute and USAA.
Attendance at the CoderDojo is dependent upon all parents, guardians and attendees agreeing to these Mentor/Attendee Agreement terms.
San Antonio College, Commonwealth Computer Company, USAA, The City of San Antonio, Accenture, HISD, SWRI, and any other organization involved are not liable for any injury or harm incurred to any student or volunteer while on campus or on the way to or from campus. These same entities are not liable for any harm or accidents to personal property at any time.
Organizers will enforce the rules throughout our events. We are expecting cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everyone. Attendees violating these rules may be asked to leave the event and future events at the discretion of the event organizers.
Students are in rooms: MLC524, MLC532, MLC533, MLC534, MLC502 A, B, and C, NAHC 218 of The San Antonio College.
Parents should plan to stay on campus in the Moody Learning Center from 10:30am to 12:30pm while the dojo is in session.
Each parent will serve in a volunteer role during the semester.
Registration
Signing up to attend events beforehand is mandatory. This is to ensure safety and to abide by venue capacity regulations. Register each student attending. Without a registration, there may not be space for the Ninja. We sincerely wish to accommodate everyone, but operate on a first come first-serve registration basis. You may not bring guest students who have not pre-registered. All adults must attend an Orientation.
Timeliness
Out of respect for our Champions and Mentors (instructors) who are volunteering their time, we ask that all registered attendees arrive on-time (at least 15 minutes early) to our gatherings. If you arrive late to an event, you may not be admitted or may not receive instruction. **It is also important that parents contact their CoderDojo Champion (at least 24hrs before class) if their child is going to be absent from a session. In order to be prepared for class upon their return, students will be expected to complete any assigned activities during their absence as there will be no time for individualized make-up instruction or explanation of activities. Parents therefore must first proactively find missed lessons by contacting another dojo classmate for the missed assignments.
Safety
The CoderDojo is for students ages 7-17. Youth must have a parental consent form on file. Youth under the age of 16 must be accompanied to/from the CoderDojo event by a parent/guardian. Parents of students 12 years old and younger must stay on premise for the entire event as per CoderDojo rules. All volunteers interacting with our attendees are professionals and are screened, but are not necessarily trained educators. Visitors are not allowed without prior consent from the CoderDojo Champions.
Equipment
CoderDojo classrooms have loaner equipment available. If using this equipment, we ask that attendees are mindful of the equipment graciously loaned to us. If equipment is damaged, the parent or guardian is responsible for replacing the item. No information can be downloaded onto the San Antonio College computers. Student drives must be used if not saving to the cloud.
Laptops, Raspberry Pi's and Jump/Flash Drives
Venues without equipment (CPU/WYSE/Monitor):
Laptops are required for the Promotion Ceremony for all Ninja's. Classes that meet in Room 524 will need to bring a laptop to every session as well. Please bring laptops with power cords and ensure that they have wireless Internet capability. So that every student has hands-on experience during this learning process, it is recommended that students NOT share laptops or drives.
Venues with equipment (CPU/WYSE/Monitor):
Jump Drives are required. Due to the personalization of most activities and projects done during our classes, it is necessary for each attendee to bring their own USB drive. Attendees are expected to bring them for all events, unless otherwise specified. So that every student has hands-on experience during this learning process, it is recommended that students NOT share drives.
Food & Drinks
Food and drinks are not allowed in the CoderDojo classes. To maintain the safety of our attendees, students will have the ability to take quick breaks (with permission & escort by a CoderDojo volunteer) to use the restroom or get a drink of water as needed. There is a rest area for parents/guardians waiting for CoderDojo attendees, but drinks/and or snacks may not be consumed in this area. Please use the designated tables to store food and drinks. Parents will sign-up to bring snacks, which will be disseminated upon exiting the CoderDojo Collaborative.
Clean up
We rely on hosting our events for free at donated spaces; for this reason, we ask that all attendees and their parents work together to leave the space better than how we found it. Please be courteous and clean-up after yourself and encourage others to do the same (cleaning up papers or garbage, pushing-in chairs, helping to secure extension cords or other borrowed equipment as needed).
Code of Conduct
We value the participation of each attendee of the CoderDojo community and want all attendees to have an enjoyable and fulfilling experience. All participants are expected to show respect and courtesy to other attendees throughout our events. Students are expected to be focused and engaged during each class – horse-play, surfing the internet, playing video games, and other activities not instructed by the Dojo Mentors, Volunteers or Champions is disrespectful to the instructor and a distraction to the class and other attendees. Attendees needing repeated redirection will be asked to leave and may face not being able to attend future classes. Additionally, parents are not allowed to photograph students other than their own and only with permission from the Dojo Champion. Dojo Champions & Volunteers will take “official pictures” during class sessions which will be shared. Parents should not ask Mentors for personal email addresses and phone numbers.
Harassment
The CoderDojo is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of event participants in any form. All communication should be appropriate for children and a professional audience including people of many different backgrounds. Vulgar language and imagery is not appropriate for any event.
Be kind to others. Do not insult or put down other attendees. Behave professionally and according to “The Golden Rule.” Remember that harassment and sexist, racist, or exclusionary jokes are not appropriate for the CoderDojo. We are not liable for any activities including communication or transactions that occur outside of our events.
Solicitation
Aggressive recruiting, marketing of commercial goods, apps, services is strictly prohibited at CoderDojo events. Please contact us beforehand for written consent. We do not provide any tutoring and do not sell anything other than t-shirts and belts.
