At Mi Work Matters, we believe the hopes, dreams and talents of every person matter. People with different abilities are infinitely worthy of meaningful work and more than capable of contributing to their community.
Today we are gratefully working to brighten their employment horizon. Over the last few months we have worked with several employers to put 7 young people with Down syndrome to work in places like the Detroit Zoo, the Ann Arbor Hands on Museum, Zingerman’s and a worldwide consulting firm in Southfield. We are expanding this work to reach more potential employees and employers.
Next up, we’re opening a coffee shop.
This first Mi Work Matters’ business will be located in Livonia, Michigan. It will be a busy, exciting hub for job training and inclusive, competitive employment for people of all abilities. We have a location, a space, and a vision. We have the help of a committed private foundation. All we need now is your support!
We have a goal of raising $60,000 in contributions to help us get Anastasia and Katie’s Coffee Shop up and running. The money raised will be used for operating costs — including employee wages — training and development, supplies, furnishings and equipment.
