• 40th Advanced Suzuki Institute

    At Stanford University

  • Student Recommendation - Must be completed by Teacher

  • Solo Honors Recital

Honors Recitals  Are open to all students (no Young Siblings) by video audition of the polished piece they wish to perform at the recital.

Accompaniment is required where applicable.  Videos must be approved by the teacher and submitted by June 1, 2019.  Not all students may be selected.

  • Chamber Music

Chamber Music is open to all Advanced Students.  All Chamber music students, Suzuki or non-Suzuki, must submit an audition video of the music excerpts.  This is required to ensure acceptance and placement in a quartet with members of similar level and age.  Chamber music audit excerpts do not need to be memorized.  Music is mailed in advance.  Note that not all students will be accepted.

While Chamber audition is open to all students, we generally recommend students to be at Violin Book 6, Viola Book 6, Cello Book 5.  Non-Suzuki students should be at or above these levels:

Violin:  Concerto No. 1 in A minor, Accolay                                                                                                 Viola:  Concerto in G Major, G.P. Telemann                                                                         Cello:  Sonata in E minor, Opus 1 No. 2, Marcello

Students must play all excerpts for their instrument taken from Mozart's Quartet #17 in B flat, The Hunt.  Please visit www.advancedsuzukiinisitute.com to download the excerpts.  Students will be judged on:

    • Style - staccato notes should come off the string
    • Rhythm - Pleast counts the rests
    • Leadership - Breathing and cueing
    • Intonation
    • Dynamics
    • Feel free to edit bowings

We recommend Chamber Music students be at least 12 years old.
