  • GARTIST EXHIBIT PROPOSALS for The Schoolhouse Café and The Little Gallery

Location: 6203 Highway 217, Sandy Cove

    Application Deadline: May 15

The Little Gallery at The Schoolhouse Café
is seeking exhibit proposals from individual artists living in the SouthWest NS region for our cafe and gallery located in Sandy Cove. Preference will be given to permanent residents living on Digby Neck, Long Island or Brier Island, however long term summer residents will also be considered.

The Schoolhouse Cafe is a Social Enterprise, run by a local registered non-profit group: The Digby Neck Collective Society. The mission of the society is to create a purposeful, valued and connected community. We strive to do this by offering a wide variety of opportunities to the residents of and visitors to Digby Neck, both taking advantage of the knowledge and skills existing within our communities, and encouraging and supporting the exploration of new experiences.

As a unique café, run entirely by local volunteers, we are committed to serving locally roasted fairly traded and organic bean coffee, offering excellent espresso and serving delicious food, using locally sourced, organic ingredients whenever possible. We are located in a community that appreciates and supports the arts. The Schoolhouse Cafe, believes the building blocks of a good life can be brewed with the 4 C’s: community, culture, conversation, and of course good coffee. We are committed to providing a space for artists to display their work in a dedicated gallery space.

A committee will select the artworks to be shown. The summer season is July, August and shows are booked in two week periods. From November through February the Gallery switches gears and becomes The Christmas Store for our local crafters. In May and June shows can vary in length. It should be noted that the Gallery is only open during regular Café hours, or whenever there is a special event. Regular Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturdays 8-2 for July and August, and Saturdays 9-2 from September through June.

Alternatively you may complete an offline application, which must include all areas above.  Please email your proposal application and images via: schoolhousecafedncs@gmail.com

Submission and receipt of your proposal indicates agreement with all terms. You will be notified that the Gallery has received your proposal and again when a decision has been made.

Please use subject line: Little Gallery Exhibit Proposal for all correspondence.
