George Hermann Graduate Scholarship in Sport Management
George Hermann served Western Illinois University for 19 years (1967-1986) as a teacher and graduate coordinator of the College of Health, Physical Education and Recreation and as chair of the men's physical education department. He served as president of the Illinois Association of health, Physical Education and Recreation (IAHPER) and was recognized by IAHPER with the prestigious Honor Fellow award. He was on the board of directors for the Midwest District of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (AHPER) and served as chair of the historical records committee for the National College Physical Education Association for Men. In 1982 Hermann was selected by the U .S. Olympic Committee to lead a delegation of five U .S. representatives to the Fifth Session for Educationists at the International Olympic Academy in Ancient Olympia, Greece.
Hermann founded the western Illinois Senior Olympics in fall 1980 and organized the first regional games in the spring of 1981.He served as state coordinator for the Illinois Regional Senior Olympics for 23 years. A previous participant, Hermann still holds two records in the Western Illinois Senior Olympics.
Hermann established the George Hermann Graduate Scholarship in Sport Management in December 2013 to assist students with financial need.
CRITERIA:
- Graduate standing in Sport Management in the Department of Kinesiology
- Enrolled in classes full time
- 3.0 undergraduate cumulative grade point average
- Demonstrated financial need
TERMS: Amount of award will be at least $2000 annually and may be used at the student's discretion.
SELECTION PROCESS:
Recipient will be selected by the Department of Kinesiology graduate coordinator and sport management faculty.
