According to the NYPD Chief of Detectives, there's around
17,500 Individuals
on the
Criminal Group/Gang Database
as of February 2018.
HOWEVER, The Intercept REPORTS,
that total could actually be closer to
30,000 Individuals
based on additional estimates given by the NYPD.
WHO does the NYPD put in the Gang Database?

states on its website that

of the individuals in the NYPD’s gang database...are people of color.
Individuals...
DO NOT receive notification
when they are ADDED
to the Gang Database...
...and unfortunately, there is
NO CLEAR PROCESS
to remove yourself,
if you are in the Database.
