The Kathy Patterson Outstanding Advisor Award honors an AGS advisor who represents the ideal AGS Advisor: one who recruits, mentors, and advises AGS students to their individual successes and to the chapter's success. The award was established in 2003 for current AGS advisors who have served at least 4 complete years of service.
Kathy Patterson was an AGS Advisor at Santa Ana College for many years until her untimely death in 2024. Kathy epitomizes the AGS Outstanding Advisor, and in 2024, the AGS State Advisory Board renamed the award in her honor.
Eligibility for the Kathy Patterson Outstanding Advisor’s Award:
- The advisor must have been an AGS advisor for the four years prior to the year of nomination.
- The advisor must not have received this award within the past four years prior to the year of nomination.
- The following advisors are past winners and are ineligible for 2026:
- Ashley McHale, Las Positas College
- Christina Axtell, Santa Ana College
- David Powers, Las Positas College
- Valerie Venegas, Golden West College
- John Quevedo, Santa Monica College
Each chapter may nominate at most ONE advisor for the Outstanding Advisor Award. All of your applications may be disqualified if you nominate more than one advisor in a single year.
FILE to upload: Create ONE PDF of the following
- ONE letter of recommendation, not more than 2 pages in length, signed by both the AGS Chapter President and AGS Chapter Vice President. The letter must be typed in 12 point Times New Roman font or a similar font which is no smaller than 10 characters per inch and with one-inch margins.
If signatures are difficult to obtain, an email from the person's email address stating they support the nomination and letter of recommendation would be a sufficient substitute for a signature.

What are some exceptional things your advisor has done?
Why do you think your advisor deserves this award?
All completed applications must be received online NO LATER THAN 5:00pm on March 15, 2026.
