Girls Rock Camp Toronto is a day camp for youth ages 8-16. The mission of rock camp is to mentor girls, trans*, and gender non-binary youth in music and self-expression while boosting self-esteem and instilling a sense of self-empowerment. In one week, and with the guidance of female role models, participants form bands, write an original song, and perform live at a music venue in Toronto. Prior music experience is not required!
The Tranzac: 292 Brunswick Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. 3 blocks from Spadina Subway Station (Bloor-Danforth & University lines)
In 2019, Girls Rock Camp Toronto runs July 22-26. Programming takes place from 9am - 5pm with optional early dropoff (8:30am) and late pickup (5:30pm). Our showcase concert on Friday takes place at 7:00pm.
Tuition for summer camp, like all GRCT programs, is sliding scale: $0-$400. We prefer to give our participants the space to decide what amount works best for their budget.
Girls Rock Camp Toronto operates with very limited resources, and we rely heavily on donations and support from the community to sustain our programs. We ask those who can afford to pay full price to do so. That being said, we do realize that not everyone can afford our suggested fees, so we use a sliding scale that includes a range of tuition amounts. Please consider your family income, resources, and dependents in the household when determining your tuition amount. This process is honour-based and confidential. We do not require any supporting documentation for consideration, so we expect you to be honest in your assessment and statement of financial need.
ROCKER SELECTION & NOTIFICATION
Participants between the ages of 8-16 by the start of camp may apply. Participants are selected by a committee seeking to establish a balanced and diverse camp population in relation to instrument, age, previous musical experience, economic status, geography and community.
We anticipate receiving more applications than spots available, and we may not be able to accept everyone who applies. Additional information will be sent with acceptance letters.
Campers choose which instrument to learn: guitar, bass guitar, drums, or keyboards. Please indicate first and second choice of instrument on the application. You cannot change your selection after you send in your application, and you cannot change instruments during camp week.
Instruments will be provided at camp. If you have your own guitar or bass, you may bring it. Please note that Girls Rock Camp Toronto does not accept liability for personal instruments.
If you need to cancel, please notify the office right away. If you must cancel, up to 3 weeks prior to a camp’s start date, we will attempt to fill your space from the waitlist. If the spot is filled, a service fee of $75 will be deducted from the refund amount. In the event of medical emergency, credit for a future session may be available. Please note that absolutely no refunds will be issued after the start of the program.
Girls Rock Camp Toronto does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national and/or ethnic origin, citizenship, sexual orientation, mental or physical ability, or gender identity in the administration of any of its educational programs, admissions policies, tuition assistance, and other camp-related policies and programs, as well as volunteer and employment-related policies and activities.
