LuMin – Austin recognizes the mounting need among the students we serve a) to have an educational experience while serving in a professional setting, b) to be guided and to be mentored by an attentive and nurturing supervisor, and c) to apply what they’re learning in their field of study to a hands-on internship. LuMin-Austin also recognizes the increasing financial concerns that come with attending college.
The LuMin-Austin Internship Program six distinctive internship positions summarized as follows (Full Job Descriptions for each of the following positions can be accessed here):
- The Kacie Brekhus Internship for Community Life - this internship focuses on planning social events, leveraging social media to promote LuMin's various events, and making sure new people to the ministry feel welcome.
- The Jensen Daily Bread Internship - an internship oversees the operation and volunteer recruitment for LuMin's Daily Bread, a food resource for students by students.
- The Carl and Claudia Social Justice Internship - this internship invites and involves LuMin worship community members into action and advocacy that cares for creation and the marginalized.
- The Bohls Donor Care Internship - this internship invites LuMin students and board members into the joy-producing activity of expressing thanks, and to maintain engagement among our donors through timely acknowledgement of gifts. This intern will cultivate new donors through the monthly sharing of a LuMin ministry story through social media and email.
- The Tailgate Tuesday Volunteer Coordinator - this internship encourages - without putting pressure on - students in their volunteering and service for Tailgate Tuesdays. The volunteer coordinator brings the "fun factor" by making sure there are ample amount of students that Tailgate Tuesdays would offer times for students to both serve AND connect with each other.
- The Worship Musician Internship - This intern plans worship with the campus pastor and invites fellow students to share their musical gifts in worship all with the goal of nourishing the faith life of LuMiin's worship community members through music.
- The Create-Your-Own Internship - this internship is designed and proposed by the applicant who sees a way of enhancing LuMin's campus ministry on the 40 Acres in a new way and which draws upon the unique gifts/area of study/passion of the applicant.
Applicants applying for one of these internship experiences are asked to share their vision for how they will enhance LuMin Austin's service to UT and presence on the 40 Acres through the internship for which they are making application.
Internship Expectations:
The LuMin-Austin intern will:
- Serve on average 10 hours/wk on the internship project throughout the semester.
- Attend weekly staff meeting to check in with the campus pastor and communicate needs/concerns as they arise.
- Use effective communication skills with LuMin Austin worship community, its staff, and student leadership.
- Be self-motivated and take initiative. Students are expected to be an active and reliable participant both in the LuMin community and with the internship project they’ve proposed.
- Attend all scheduled student leadership council meetings (will typically be secheduled on Sundays before 5PM worship)
- Regularly receive God’s means of Grace in worship. It’s difficult to give grace without first receiving it.
When a concern, mistake, or challenge arises, the LuMin-Austin intern will communicate it with the campus pastor, so that the intern and the campus pastor can jointly work on a faithful response.
Internship Stipend:
LuMin-Austin will provide its student intern(s) $1,600 based on 10 hours/week of service on the internship project over the course of a 16 week semester. These funds will be disbursed in four equal payments on the first of the month over the course of the semester. (Ex. Fall Semester Interns receive stipend payments of $400 on September 1, October 1, November 1, and December 1)
