HOUSEKEEPING DEPARTMENT RULES
- Every person working in a Surf or Sound (SOS) house MUST be on Surf or Sound payroll. Employees are not allowed to take children, friends or family members with them on any job. This is for the safety of Surf or Sound Realty, its employees and its homeowners. We must know who are in the homes at all times. No exceptions.
- Everyone is to adhere to the SOS dress code: No flip flops or open toed shoes, Surf or Sound T-shirt (which is NOT to be altered in any way). No strapless or spaghetti strap dresses. All female employees MUST wear proper undergarments …i.e. – BRA!
- Housekeepers must report to work no later than 8:30 a.m. If you are going to be late, you need to call in.
- You must call the office when you arrive and again when you leave a house. Failure to report in can result in a reduction in pay if another employee is sent to check the cleaning status or to locate you.
- All paperwork must be filled out completely, including the time you arrive and leave and the person you reported to.
- No cleaning supplies are to be left in houses.
- No smoking in any house.
- Report all damages to the office as soon as they are found even if you think they were there before and even if you have reported it previously. This includes burn marks, tears, holes, stains, etc. on carpets, furniture, countertops or walls. Also, all damages should be noted on your damage sheet.
- Emergencies should be called into the office immediately. Be prepared to identify the location of needed repair and note the damage on your cleaner sheet. Leaks, among other things, are considered emergencies.
- Keys and your completed paperwork must be turned in at the end of the day. Payroll cannot be processed without completed Cleaner Sheets. Payroll will be withheld until all keys are returned.
- Buckets must be returned clean and organized. Remove all trash, food or any other cleaning chemical, not approved by SOS from your bucket.
- Return all lost and found items to the housekeeping department and label with the house number and date found. At the end of the season, if there are any unclaimed lost and found items, they will be set out for all staff to divvy up or donated to charity.
- You must not leave work before your houses have been inspected and/or you have reported to a Housekeeping Manager. If there is a callback and you are not available to return to the house and complete the task, your pay will be reduced by the amount we have to pay another housekeeper to complete the job.
- Your paycheck will be held for one week, every week you work. In case there are cleaning complaints during the week that are legitimate and if we have to send another housekeeper to clean, your check will be docked for the amount the housekeeper earned while taking care of the complaint. You may sign up for direct deposit, or a debit card, or your check will be mailed to you to the address you provided. No paychecks will be handed out from the office. Report any issues you have with your paycheck to your Manager or Assistant Manager.
- Surf or Sound Realty will not be held accountable for delays in payroll through the postal system if you do not elect for either a direct deposit or debit card. Missing the next scheduled cleaning day due to postal delays is not an excused absence and will be held against the bonus program.
- You are on the company’s “Three Strike Rule” – You are allowed a maximum of three callbacks. After the third callback, we may choose to terminate your position with Surf or Sound. We reserve the right, based upon an evaluation of the severity of the “strike”, to issue a termination before you reach the third one.
- If you refuse to handle a callback to the property you will be terminated and you will be paid the amount equal to the minimum wage hourly rate for that property and you will not be paid travel pay, if applicable.
- AFTER YOU HAVE NOTIFIED THE OFFICE THAT YOU HAVE COMPLETED YOUR CLEANING ASSIGNMENT, THE HOUSE WILL BE INSPECTED BY A MANAGER OR INSPECTOR. IF THE HOUSE IS FOUND TO BE IN AN UNSATISFACTORY CONDITION, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO RETURN AND PROPERLY RECLEAN THE ASSIGNED HOUSE. IF YOU REFUSE TO GO BACK AND RECLEAN THE HOUSE YOU WILL NOT BE PAID FOR CLEANING THAT HOUSE. LEAVING THE ISLAND PRIOR TO HOUSE BEING INSPECTED IS THE SAME AS REFUSAL.
- AFTER YOUR HOUSES ARE COMPLETED, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO REMAIN AVAILABLE UNTIL ALL HOUSES FOR THE DAY HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED, OR YOU ARE RELEASED BY MANAGEMENT, AS WE MAY REQUIRE YOU TO PICK UP EXTRA HOUSES FOR THAT DAY.
Non- compliance of these rules will result in your immediate termination.
2019 Cleaner Bonus Program
We want to thank you for all your effort in providing the quality housekeeping that our homeowners and guests expect. In appreciation for all your hard work and commitment to providing consistently excellent service this season, an additional 10% of the cleaning rate you receive for each house you clean each week will go into a bonus fund for you. That bonus fund will grow in value from week to week through the season. At the end of the season, you will be paid that total as a bonus in appreciation for your 100% attendance for all scheduled work days and for maintaining the standards of excellence that our homeowners and guests expect.
You are in control of the amount of the bonus that you will receive. There will be no deductions from your accumulated bonus as long as you show up on time for every scheduled work day and meet our standard housekeeping quality requirements.
Deductions will be made from your accumulated bonus IF:
If there is a call back from an inspection or a substantiated complaint from a guest. This will result in the loss of the bonus for that house for that week. This will apply to all team members assigned to that house that week. It will not matter if a particular team member caused the issue.
If you fail to report for duty on a scheduled workday or do not report on time. There will be no more than two (2) excused absences allowed per season to qualify for this Bonus Program. Your total bonus to date will be forfeited leaving the bonus account with a zero balance. Missing the next scheduled cleaning day due to postal delays is not an excused absence and will be held against the bonus program. When you return to work, the bonus will once again start accumulating each week for the remainder of the season.
For the purpose of this Bonus Program, the season is defined as the period from May, 25th, 2019 through September 20th, 2019.
When you report for work, you will need to acknowledge that you have read and understood all the Housekeeping Department Rules of Surf or Sound by signing this document.
