It’s Not Just About the Birds and the Bees:
How to Talk to Kids About Sex
April 24th 7:00pm to 8:30pm
How does someone know if they are gay? How old were you when you first had sex? Can you make yourself not have a baby if you have sex? Does sex hurt? Do you have to be naked to have sex? Maybe you’ve had a kid ask a complicated question and puzzled over how to answer. Or maybe your kids are just totally silent on the topic of sexuality. Either way, this session will help parents learn how to talk about everything from gender stereotypes, to puberty, sexual orientation, sexual assault, pornography, and plain old sex. In the process, it will challenge myths about sexuality and parents will leave with discussion prompts and concrete scripts to draw from. This session will focus on kids 8-13, however, issues for parents of younger and older kids will be addressed as well.
