Eastside Artists' Gallery is a growing artists-run cooperative in Frederick, Maryland. Our spacious gallery is filled with a broad variety work, styles, and mediums. We aim to support established as well as emerging artists. The gallery is currently open Saturday & Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. New shows occur monthly beginning on the first Saturday of each month with a reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. We are located just down the street from the Delaplaine Arts Center within Everedy Square.
Membership Benefits
- Premium members receive a solo or duo show each year and are generally permitted 3-4 pieces in the members' section of the gallery each month.
- Basic members receive half of a solo or duo show each year and are generally permitted 1-2 pieces in the members' section of the gallery each month.
- We also have areas to display prints, sculptures, pottery, and jewelry. We will work with each artist to make sure they are fairly represented and promoted.
- Members have the opportunity to hold classes and teach in the gallery when it is not open.
Membership Responsibilities
- Pay dues in a timely fashion each month. The gallery's expenses are divided by the number of members we have. Currently, premium members pay $175 and basic members pay $110 each month.
- Gallery sitting. Members are expected to sit in the gallery at least once per month. Shifts are Saturday/Sunday 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
- Attend meetings. Members are expected to attend monthly meetings, which will be held before the first Saturday of each month.
- Participate in helping the gallery operate. Members are expected to help out with various tasks, including but not limited to: hanging, PR/marketing, scheduling, recruiting new members, cleaning, and painting, etc.
FAQs
- How much commission does the gallery charge? The gallery charges 20% commission.
- How long is the committment? We ask new members to sign a contract for one year. Thereafter, the terms are month-to-month with 30 days notice required before ending the contract.
- Do members have to pay for their own marketing? The gallery advertises locally with 72 Hours and through social media (Facebook, Instagram, monthly newsletter). We also have quarterly flyers that we distribute and supply posters for our sandwich boards. Individual members may pay for additional advertsing themselves.
Applicant Process/Guidelines
- Each application will be reviewed by for completeness. If you do not have a website, you will be asked to submit 10 images of your work. You will also be asked to submit a $35 application fee.
- Once an application is complete, it will be forwarded to the members for review.
- You will be requested to attend one of our monthly meetings and to bring five pieces representational of your work.
- A two-thirds (2/3) majority vote by the members is required for acceptance. Some of the criteria used in reviewing an artist's application include: craftmanship, execution, originality, professional display, fits or diversifies our gallery, has unique skills or abilities that benefit the gallery and its operations.
