Application & Guidelines
The Eta Beta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Nelson Senter Scholarship Luncheon was established to encourage African American youths to continue their educational pursuits. Recipients shall be male graduating seniors who are college bound in the fall of the year the award is given. Completed online scholarship applications and all supplemental materials must be submitted, via this website, by Friday March 9th 2024 at 11:59pm CST. All portions of the scholarship application must be uploaded onto this website as "one completed submission." Any applications or supplemental pieces of the application will not be accepted or considered for ANY REASON after the deadline. Furthermore, please refer to the Scholarship Application Requirements section to ensure all portions of the scholarship application are submitted.
Award Criteria
Applicant must be a male high school student whose already received at least one acceptance letter from a college/university with at least a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and a competitive standardized test score. The recipient must enroll as a full-time student (minimum 12 credit hours) in the fall semester of the year scholarship is awarded.
Award Categories
Our chapter offers four academic scholarships and one service scholarship, listed below.
Academic Scholarships are awarded to scholars who present impressive GPAs and outstanding academic achievements. The four High-School Academic Scholarships available to applicants are as follows:
Orrin Rucker Memorial Scholarship - ($1,500.00) - Our top scholarship, awarded to one applicant who meets all application requirements and has the highest score on the chapter's scoring rubric.
A. Langston Taylor Scholarship - ($1,000.00) - Awarded to one applicant that meets the requirements and has a high score on the chapter's scoring rubric.
Leonard F. Morse Scholarship - ($1,000.00) - Awarded to one applicant that meets the requirements and has a high score on the chapter's scoring rubric.
Charles I. Brown Scholarship - ($1,000.00) - Awarded to one applicant that meets the requirements and has a high score on the chapter's scoring rubric.
Service Scholarships are awarded to scholars who display outstanding community service, social activism, or civic/political involvement.
Culture for Service, Service for Humanity Leadership Award - ($500) - Awarded to one applicant that can verify their involvement activities and attach all associated documents to the application submission. There is no specific GPA requirement to be considered for this scholarship, however, in the case of multiple scholarship applicants, the deciding factor will be cumulative GPA.
Scholarship Application Requirements
- A completed Eta Beta Sigma Chapter Scholarship Application.
- Letter of recommendation from a financial member of Eta Beta Sigma Chapter.
- High school transcript.
- ACT/SAT score.
- 1000-word essay (double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pt. font) describing why the applicant is deserving of being awarded the scholarship applied for and how this scholarship will assist them in their collegiate aspirations.
