  • Paws Animal Welfare Society of Fort Kent goes to great lengths to ensure that the kitten/cat you are fostering/adopting is in good health. However, as with any animal, there can be unknown illnesses that occur as time goes on or that can develop when the cat is stressed, e.g. during the transition to a new environment.

-->PAWS provides a 7-day post-adoption fee-return policy. By initializing below, you agree to have the cat examined by a licensed veterinarian within that time. If an unanticipated health problem is discovered during this first examination within those 7 days, the cat may be returned for a full refund of the adoption fee or you may ask PAWS for consideration in paying for a portion of the vet bill.

-->After the 7-day period, you agree to have the cat examined by a licensed veterinarian on an annual basis for a "wellness check-up." In case of illness or injury, you agree to seek prompt veterinary care. You agree to keep rabies and distemper vaccinations current. Unless agreed upon with you beforehand, all Paws fosters/adoptees have been dewormed twice, have had a Rabies vaccination, have been spayed/neutered and have had their 1st distemper vaccination. These vaccinations are not "life-long" vaccinations, and it is your responsibility to maintain a current vaccination schedule from this point on. Paws often also does additional medical treatments for cats while under the care of Paws, which are not listed above, but which you will receive a full record of when we mail you your adopted cat’s medical records.

->It is your choice whether or not you’d like to give your newly adopted cat non-standard/non-core vaccinations, and you should do so at your own discretion and with the advice of your veterinarian. It is also your decision whether or not you bring this new cat to the veterinarian upon foster/adoption and have it tested for communicable diseases before introducing it to your household.

-->Paws cannot be liable for the future health of the kitten/cat you are adopting. Paws cannot be liable for the future health of other pets you may have in your household that will be exposed to the fostered/adopted Paws cat.
