Thank you for considering sending your work to Hunger Mountain! Please read our Mission Statement to get a general sense of the work we’re most interested in promoting, & please also read about our specific theme for our next issue, #24—Patterns.
Our editorial team regularly changes, but the main consistency in our aesthetic is a desire to read something risky. Please use your cover letter to tell us what we need to know in order to meet your writing on its own terms—we don't really care about credentials, but we do want to get to know you as best we can through your submission & your note, so it's helpful to hear why you think Hunger Mountain might be a good fit, & what aspects of your identity will help us best approach your art.
Your writing will be read by at least two members of our community, & we aim to respond within six months.
Most of our staff is student and volunteer labor, but our submission fee allows us to print the annual magazine, as well as to pay our contributors, Guest Editors, Managing Editor, Hunger Mountain Fellows, & our Graphic Design Fellow. We're grateful to our hopeful contributors for not only wanting to be in our pages, but also for helping sustain those pages. Subscribers & previous contributors can always submit for free. We couldn't exist without this community, so thank you for being a part of it. (This new system does not charge us per submission, so we're now able to maintain our budget by charging $2 instead of the previous $3.)
We're grateful for your support!
