On the Detroit Mission Trip we require that all students leave their cell phones at home. Having a break from being connected to the world is a great thing during this trip and allows the students to really focus on the job at hand and to have greater opportunities to grow personally and in community with one another.
We are asking parents to help us in this and make sure your student leaves their phone at home. We will be reminding students at each meeting that cell phones are not allowed on this trip, for any reason. There have been issues in previous years where a parent has negated this requirement and sent a cell phone with their student. Please understand that this is not just a suggestion, but it is a rule that we have for the week. It will not matter if the phone is powered off and has not been used all week, if a cell phone is found, the student will be sent home.
We understand that some students have anxiety issues in being away from home, but each of our adults will have a cell phone, and if there is a specific reason the student needs to call home, we will make our phones available. If there are specific issues with this that need to be cleared up, we ask that you talk to Mark or Chelsie directly before the trip begins.
This form simply allows us to know that we are on the same page with this rule, and you will partner with us to make sure the phone stays home!
Thanks for understanding, and again, if you have questions, please talk to Mark or Chelsie.
